The greatest pure rap album of all time. The grittiness of the beats only further emphasize Nas' skills as both a rapper and a brutally honest lyricist. The lyrics are unreal, and too hard to put into words the images it portrays, go listen. [First added to this chart: 09/24/2011]

The album that most suffered from being too ahead of its time. Heroin, transvestites, whips and sex make for one of the greatest experiments in art history. The record's sound and style, full of screeching guitars and ostrich tuning, are so unique and special that the band could not, and luckily did not, go back to the well again for their follow up. The White Album was in free fall for years on my chart, but I have recently discovered that within the chaos loves its' beauty. Far less focused than Sgt. Peppers, the most obsessive Beatles fans can still find messages and consistent themes (e.g. Paul is Dead, and its' intent as the "soundtrack of the revolution). Perhaps what changed the most for me was the Cry Baby Cry-R9-Good Night outro. See the 100/100 review of "Revolution 9" on its page in BEA by another member to hear a great review.

Original:
4 Solo Albums released under the name 'The Beatles', eccentric and inconsistent the White Album was the start of the Beatles Break-up. That was the bad part, but in the same way the white album benefited from the eccentric style as it contained the Beatles' Hardest, Softest, most country, and bluesiest music. If this double album was separated into two albums it would arguably be the greatest albums of all time. In Revolver, I used the boxer analogy, well if the White Album was a boxer than every other punch you would be thinking "This is the greatest boxer of all time" and the other punches, well you would be saying is he really trying to this shit. It's quite amazing actually that tracks like "While my Guitar Gently Weeps," "Happiness is a Warm Gun," and "Dear Prudence," were on the same album as the Yoko Ono idea and really the only bad thing the Beatles every made "Revolution 9," which bad isn't a good word to describe it abomination is. Still even after all this inconsistency it still manages to be considered on of the greatest albums.

The 3rd of the 4 amazing Rolling Stones album it is the lowest ranked out of the 4. Still a great album the first side is full of hits and the second side is full of blues.

Did I make a big mistake over looking OK Computer for a year as a ok album until 11/18/11 when I realized how great it is. This album is fucking mind blowing I don't think it is the Greatest album of all time but I can see why people consider it to be. I think if any human being on this planet gives this 5-10 listens they will else like it. I know i didnt like it at first but OK Computer is just one of the few albums like that I think Revolver being the other

Alt. Rock at its best. Pixies best album step up in production quality from Surfer Rosa and a step up in pure quality. The songs are longer in Doolittle and the topics are very similar to the late 8ng0s version of London Calling

A guitar, a tape recorder, one of the greatest songwriters of all time and a cold January Jersey Day made one of the most influential and stark albums of all time. Never before could Springsteen's voice be described as haunting, but it haunts throughout the album. He would never stop this in acoustic style in the 90s, and not many other people did either [First added to this chart: 10/16/2014]

Although there's 3 Beatles albums in front of Rubber Soul, Rubber Soul was the first of the great Beatles albums. It was so influential that it inspired Pet Sounds. The best song on the album is arguably one of the greatest "In My Life." If I had more room Hard Day's Night and MMT would also be on list but didnt want to much Beatles [First added to this chart: 08/05/2011]

1967 The Band and Dylan record the Basement Sessions. Now both of these artists are influenced by country music and make Country tinged folk albums. Dylan makes John Welsey Harding and the Band makes their debut Music From Big Pink. Although the Band borrowed two songs from Dylan they outperformed the more than solid John Welsey Harding by making if you consider Music From Big Pink a country album, it would be greatest country album of all time. Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some charts can have several thousand ratings)

This chart is rated in the top 6% of all charts on BestEverAlbums.com. This chart has a Bayesian average rating of 88.5/100, a mean average of 88.2/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 88.6/100. The standard deviation for this chart is 9.2.

Somewhere along the line you seem to have shifted Pet Sounds to #1 above Highway 61 ~ unforgiveable (LOL)!
Anyway, your chart overall is cool enough. To me, it seems a bit too 'safe' and I'm not a fan of charts where a large percentage of valuable chart space is devoted to only a small number of artists. While I respect your artist loyalty, there's nothing in your chart to surprise me or to tempt me to go in search of an unknown artist/album.

Great list! 30 albums in common, that is a lot! Great to see 4 Dylan albums, and to find two A Tribe Called Quest albums near the end. And well done on the notes!

Approaches perfection... Very nice chart.. and I'm not even a big fan of some of these artists but the short descriptions and the quality of your choices can't be disputed.

When i first looked at your list, i immediately thought to myself "oh brother, another copy cat". but after reading your beautiful descriptions of each album, i have to say, congratulations. You have an incredible list.
I'm very familiar with your albums and i appreciate you taking the time to describe in detail what makes you love that particular album. thankyou

Usually a list with lots of notes automatically makes me appreciate it lots. That's mostly the case with this one, but I do have a small problem with some of them. It feels like lots of the write-ups boil down to "this album is so great, it has a great history", not adding too much to why YOU like it. This being said, I generally don't have anything major against the notes, some of them are really great. The one for Lonerism for instance really stood out for me, to just name one!

Lots of the picks also seem a bit safe, although I am convinced these are the album's you love. Here are some recommendations that might suit you, whilst still being a slight change of pace:

Have You in my Wilderness by Julia Holster
98.12.28 Otokotachi No Wakare by Fishmans
White Light from the Mouth of Infinity by Swans
Faust IV by Faust
Sov Gott Roe-Mari by International Harvester

Really lovely list nonetheless!

I'd already left a rating on this chart but since it's chart of the day I'll leave a comment. Your notes are so so good; so much detail and I love the way you talk about your favourite albums! The modern inclusions (especially hip hop) mark your taste out from just being a classic rock affair, though I do think there's little in the way of alternative picks (maybe stemming from your focus on your favourite 'big' artists?), I'd be really interested to see what this chart with a 1-album-per-artist rule would look like
