The conservative traditions of folk, piano and acoustics layered with the liberal essence of wavy synth atmosphere and Granduciel's Springsteenesque vocal style brings together what I perceive as American music and spirit.

This record is thriving black pride. Before the release of this record, I associated Donald Glover with his lively character Troy in Community. My respect for him grew so much when I listened to the opening track Me And Your Mama. The mellow intro collapses into an acid psychedlic soul/funk explosion with Gambino's vocal style ranging from Prince to James Brown. Senseful, sexy, stimulative, synthesized - no more "childish" hip hop, this is of mature nature. May the dank memes never taint the R&B-goodness of Redbone.

As I annually visited Dublin/Ireland from 2010 to 2016 (and as U2 is my favourite band), I always look out what the Irish music scene has to offer. Fontaines D.C. for example are truly outstanding. The Dublin dialect fits this raw, fast, cocky punkrock so much - and they manage to make it sound quite catchy, aswell! On some songs, the singer sounds like Shane MacGowan and I can't help to compare the slower songs to The Pogues.

I would consider myself a "poptimist". Of course, at 15, I've had my "all radio music is crap" phase. I've really grown out of this phase, I now can appreciate good pop music - If I'm being honest, I've enjoyed these songs all along. I think everyone should give Harry Styles a try, he is a very skilled songwriter with a good ear for perfect earworms but also able to create oppulent pop rock ballads - Sign Of The Times has to be one of my favourite chart songs of the decade!

For rappers, it's state of the art to switch producers from track to track. This record shows how brilliant an album can turn out, if the rapper and the producer stick together for a whole album. Freddie Gibbs is one of my favourite rappers regarding flow and his gangsta-rap-lyrics accompany the sample-heavy beats by Madlib very well. "MadGibbs" is equally iconic as Madvillain.

A turning point and breakthrough for this Austrian collective. Middle Europa was shaken when they entered the scene alongside the other big "new austropop" band Wanda in late 2014. So fresh, so cool, so Falco. It's cheap to state Bilderbuch as being the heir to Falco, but their music is cleary inspired and has the same verve. Funky meets melancholy, always with cheesy lyrics. The oversaturation of bling, style, glam and chiq on this record is what's making it Bilderbuch's best effort to date. They went on to make less instrumental, more internet music, Schick Schock will forever be the perfect summer album.

Somehow, Interpol manage to paint with a darker black than anyone else. And on El Pintor, they manage to paint a even darker black than before, a really viscous dark goo. Not heavy though, but super sharp, as the yearning guitars are even more longing than on their breakthrough debut album Turn On The Bright Lights! The guitars of closing tracks Tidal Wave and Twice As Hard reverbe long through the night.

Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some charts can have several thousand ratings)

This chart is rated in the top 2% of all charts on BestEverAlbums.com. This chart has a Bayesian average rating of 90.3/100, a mean average of 92.7/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 93.1/100. The standard deviation for this chart is 7.7.
