The main dish is a set of catchy alternative pop tunes that everyone can enjoy, flavoured with the basic essence of folktronica. Pouring in some serious 21-century-poetry and voila, there you have one excellent example of a perfect hipster record. Whenever I put this record on, I can be sure: Spring is here, a long, stressful winter is over and the year will start to be okay. So lovely and light.

Noel had me with the cheeky "nanananana"-chrous on the first single In The Heat Of The Moment. I knew that he would release some really good tunes of fresh guitar rock. Furthermore, I really appreciate him as a songwriter, considering he wrote some of the biggest hymns of modern rock music. The subtle use of sax and slightly psychedelic experimentations on Chasing Yesterday present Noel on his prime. Although I love Oasis and the stuff they put out in the 90s, I'm so glad that they broke up, so Noel could reinvent himself and create this album.

I purchased this album on it's release date, Bowie's 69th birthday. I really digged the tracks he had released in advance and was pumped for this record. I played it throughout the weekend and it helped me through a bad hangover. When the news broke in that Bowie had passed on the Monday after, the whole concept of this album instantly made sense. The sinister lyrics, the cryptic videos, the elegiac music. It was a genius move to pull out such a strong swan song as his final record. While he has always had a jazzy vibe throughout his career, Bowie perfected his jazzyness on ★, with the sax being the lead instrument instead of the guitar. The last two tracks are more classic Bowieesque tracks and manage to let David sparkle one last time. Thank you very much for this.

Unmatched in terms of being the best comeback album of the decade. Slowdive are a legendary band, they contributed so much to Shoegaze and Dream Pop - so in a way they also contributed to this chart by paving the way for artist from Beach House to Deafheaven. But not only are Slowdive extremly influental, they also created the genre-peaking album of the decade: After a 22 year hiatus, they return with their best album (to date!). Both Rachel's and Neil's voices flow into the etheral stream of guitars and create saturated soundscapes to really, slowly dive into.

Before this band got REALLY famous, if you searched for the bandname on YouTube, one of the videos found was titled "black midi music can destroy your computer". While unrelated to the band, it fitted - one just has to listen to "ducter" for the first time to feel the same way. Black Midi's unbelievably energetic cacophony of sounds in my view sparked a whole new genre, a more brutal, more instrumentally versatile, more jazzy and much more experimental version of Post Punk. This album will be regarded this genre's first milestone.

I just checked this album out because I liked the cover. Boy was I lucky to do that. Most tunes on Get To Heaven could easily be played on mainstream radio while still please alternative music critics. One of the finest progressive pop records of this decade.

I would consider myself a "poptimist". Of course, at 15, I've had my "all radio music is crap" phase. I've really grown out of this phase, I now can appreciate good pop music - If I'm being honest, I've enjoyed these songs all along. I think everyone should give Harry Styles a try, he is a very skilled songwriter with a good ear for perfect earworms but also able to create oppulent pop rock ballads - Sign Of The Times has to be one of my favourite chart songs of the decade!

I'm in love with Florence. Saw her on a festival stage in TV and she's like a hippie hurricane. Although her debut album will forever be her best, the hits on this album are nontheless the sound of spring, compressed into music. The best (indie) pop singer songwriter around the start of the 10s - hands down!

I've once read: "Thom Yorke could take a shit in the studio and record it and fand and music critics would still love it." It's kind of true. Not to say that AMSP is shit in any way, I really enjoy the introverted, eerie orchestral sound. But I also remember the sheer hype for this release, the otherworldly ratings on this site. Radiohead are way past their peak - but I no other band that could still put out such good records way past their peak!

I'm still waiting for the perfect Editors record. It's frustating that their most mainstream record is their best within this decade. This also is their most alternative rock record, which actually suits Tom Smith's baritone voice really well... but can we have The Back Room back?

Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some charts can have several thousand ratings)

This chart is rated in the top 2% of all charts on BestEverAlbums.com. This chart has a Bayesian average rating of 90.3/100, a mean average of 92.7/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 93.1/100. The standard deviation for this chart is 7.7.
