Surely, one can still manage to trait back Tyler's roots to the somewhat lyrically extreme alternative sounding hip hop on tracks like Who Dat Boy and I Ain't Got Time. But with the rest of the tracklist, the "silly boy of rap music" brings us a deeply personal, intimate sound that takes big steps towards the neo soul he would later further implement into his music. Who would have thought, that Tyler, the creator would release a concept album about solitude and feeling lonely. With all the emo and soundcloud rappers that burst onto the scene this decade, the topic is not groundbreaking, but yet so much more touching and believable on this record that blends lyrical melancholia with an upbeat sound.

King Gizzard released 15 albums in this decade, 5 of which in 2017 - surely, it was the year of the Gizz! So there should be something for everyone who likes guitar music in their catalouge. Polygondwana is their best effort at fusing progressive rock with their distinct psychedelic sound. The centre piece of course is the heavy acid rock opening track Crumbling Castle. But I also like the flow of the following tracks, as they are more mellow and complex.

Unmatched in terms of being the best comeback album of the decade. Slowdive are a legendary band, they contributed so much to Shoegaze and Dream Pop - so in a way they also contributed to this chart by paving the way for artist from Beach House to Deafheaven. But not only are Slowdive extremly influental, they also created the genre-peaking album of the decade: After a 22 year hiatus, they return with their best album (to date!). Both Rachel's and Neil's voices flow into the etheral stream of guitars and create saturated soundscapes to really, slowly dive into.

You connect with music even more, when the lyrics are in your native tongue - at least that's what I experience with this raw, aggressive post punk record. The lyrics picture personal hopelessness and a deep void in a frightening way while they also give a small insight into the socio-political situation of a country that fears the foreign.

I would consider myself a "poptimist". Of course, at 15, I've had my "all radio music is crap" phase. I've really grown out of this phase, I now can appreciate good pop music - If I'm being honest, I've enjoyed these songs all along. I think everyone should give Harry Styles a try, he is a very skilled songwriter with a good ear for perfect earworms but also able to create oppulent pop rock ballads - Sign Of The Times has to be one of my favourite chart songs of the decade!

The albums title is a reference to the yellow guitar of frontman Stu Mackenzie, which is, like every other instrument on here, is microtonaly tuned. Microtunal chords fuck up the common Western sound scale, so the result would usually sound extremely experimental. But King Gizz implemented the microtonal tuning so good into this album that it contributes to their usual psychedelia by making it even more Middle Eastern and Oriental sounding.

I would lie if I would describe Brockhampton as the decade's most beloved boyband. Well, they surely were Fantano's most beloved boyband: 7 dudes with different flows and a knack of Kanye. Their saturation trilogy in 2017 gave us banger after banger, most of them on their second effort.

LCDs comeback record is vibrant and exactly what I want to hear from James Murphy. The overall tone is less electronic and more sinister than 10 years ago, with more post punky influences, which suits the band well. Contrary to the title, the sound is more European then ever on this album.

Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some charts can have several thousand ratings)

This chart is rated in the top 2% of all charts on BestEverAlbums.com. This chart has a Bayesian average rating of 90.3/100, a mean average of 92.7/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 93.1/100. The standard deviation for this chart is 7.7.
