They Say I'm DifferentUnited States Betty Davis
Hard Hitting Funk from the queen of the genre. The former Mrs. Miles Davis, one of the 20th centuries most important musical figures, yet you rarely hear her name mentioned. She introduced Miles to Sly and Jimi and helped inspire Bitches Brew. Her music is savage wild hard hitting funk Hard hitting sexy funk, still sounds fresh all these years after it was recorded. This is one bad ass Woman.

Joyous Childlike psychedelia an amazingly influential and beautifully innocent masterpiece. Barretts true testament to the world and a marvelous snapshot of a long gone time where things weren't so different from today the masses longed for peace while the machine gives us war.

Death CertificateUnited States Ice Cube
The death side is the better side but no Vaseline from the life side is the best track. In fact it is the best diss track in rap history. Funny and raw and hard hitting all at the same time. One of the albums that really got me into west coast hip hop.

A Guitar Lovers dream, Warren Haynes and John Scohfield just feed off each other pushing the jams into outer space. Passionate amped up numbers. A true music lovers dream. Reminds me of an early 70's fusion album despite its recent lineage. A powerhouse of a record.

Funky sexy and bad ass album with some of my favorite Prince songs. Hard Hitting and powerful. I can remember knowing this album was dirty as a kid but not really knowing why. It just oozes Prince from beginning to end a classic and as definitive as any album he would make.

Not much in common (only 8 albums & 8 artists) but phenomenal choices in rock, hip-hop, funk, soul, prog, jazz, etc. Super rich and inclusive. Great notes too. Loved seeing Cat Stevens at #12, he was one of my first loves and that album was among the first few I owned. I saved some of your rap selections to listen to later. None of your choices seemed cliche (Even Beatles at #1), I'm glad you chose this method of entry. Saving this chart to my favorites.

I liked reading your notes. They are really sensible. And I liked what you wrote about trying to make an honest chart about what are REALLY your favorite albums, rather than what you think SHOULD be your favorite albums. But even that isn't as easy as it sounds, as I've discovered.
