The ChronicUnited States Dr. Dre
The album that introduced the world to the G Funk Era and to Calvin Broadus aka Snoop Dog. A Hazy 420 Cannabis coated masterpiece. Its relevance can not be understated. One of the first records to bring casual music fans into the gangster rap world. Fun, Funny at times, hard, and edgy this album was like a day in the life of a compton citizen.

Rough sonic assault by Young and Crazy Horse. Cowgirl In The Sand and Down By The River are wondering guitar thrashing masterpieces. The title track and cinnamon girl also stand out on a brilliant album by a brilliant artist.

Such a culturally and ethnically diverse band playing some great rock, soul, and funk. Sly is a genius and this record is his greatest achievement. The whole catalog is worth having but this is the zenith.

Madman Across The WaterUnited Kingdom Elton John
Classic masterpiece with a 1-2-3 punch to open the record that can stand up to any opening trio in rock. Madman Across the Water and Tiny dancer are both perfect songs though rather different. Elton is strong in both playing and singing on this record.

Rock N Roll AnimalUnited States Lou Reed
One of my favorite openings of any album. Intro->Sweet Jane is glam rock guitar driven beauty. Crystal clean and piercing guitar as opposed to the grungier sound of the Velvets. Lou Reed at his Rock God best. Steve Hunter and Dick Wagner on duel lead guitar are both exceptional on this album. Their playing on the intro is some of the best in music history. Another amazing Live Record.

Not much in common (only 8 albums & 8 artists) but phenomenal choices in rock, hip-hop, funk, soul, prog, jazz, etc. Super rich and inclusive. Great notes too. Loved seeing Cat Stevens at #12, he was one of my first loves and that album was among the first few I owned. I saved some of your rap selections to listen to later. None of your choices seemed cliche (Even Beatles at #1), I'm glad you chose this method of entry. Saving this chart to my favorites.

I liked reading your notes. They are really sensible. And I liked what you wrote about trying to make an honest chart about what are REALLY your favorite albums, rather than what you think SHOULD be your favorite albums. But even that isn't as easy as it sounds, as I've discovered.
