Produced by Band Of Horses and Phil Ek. One of my favorite bands, this group can pretty much do no wrong in my eyes. Between Everything All The Time and Cease To Begin, I'm in musical heaven. This one has "The Funeral", "The Great Salt Lake", "St. Augustine"...how can you possibly go wrong? Haunting vocals, fine guitar work, great songwriting...all the things I look for in a great rock album. But Band Of Horses is more than just a rock band, and albums like Everything All The Time are more than just great. Timeless. [First added to this chart: 02/23/2013]

Produced by Jim Abbiss. This is supposed to be the kind of album I don't like. But I was hooked from the first listen to "Red Light Indicates Doors Are Secured". The pace of this album is furious, and the energy is endless. The album is almost flawless...its flaws make it even better. In 2006, I thought music was dying. This album changed my mind about that. This album makes me want to celebrate whatever I'm doing, which, to me, is the mark of a truly successful recording. [First added to this chart: 10/31/2012]

Produced by Jack White III & Brendan Benson. Anyone who thought that Jack White would flounder outside of The White Stripes were proven wrong with this album. "Steady As She Goes" was an immediate hit, and the rest is more than solid. The Raconteurs are sometimes referred to as a supergroup, but only White was a widely known entity beforehand. They made another, just as good album, but this is the one that really has the punch. Powerful and solid from start to finish, this shows that White just may be the great rock hope. Produced by Rich Costey and Muse. Album number four from Muse is yet another monster effort from this little band with the huge sound. With the huge "Knights Of Cydonia" as the payoff at the end, Matthew Bellamy's songwriting is as good as ever, with "Supermassive Black Hole" and "Starlight" being other standout tracks. Sometimes dismissed as overblown, Black Holes And Revelations is big, loud, and massive in scope...but I don't think there's anything overblown about it. Impressive? Yes. Produced by Gomez and Gil Norton. America seriously missed out on what might have been the best album of 2006 by continuing to ignore Gomez. Such a great band, and this is Gomez at their absolute best.
More hooks than a pirate convention, more great songs than most bands have in a career, How We Operate is simply exceptional. The title track at full volume is worth it all on its own, and there's much, much more. One of the great pop/rock albums of the 2000's, you should really give this one a chance.

Produced by Bruce Springsteen and Jon Landau. The only Springsteen album to not feature any original material: these are all songs made popular by Pete Seeger. Some of them are a century old, but Springsteen handles them like they are his own songs. The results are fantastic, and the end result is yet another great Springsteen record. He sounds like he could have written songs like "Old Dan Tucker" and "Erie Canal" himself, without losing the feel of the original...the mark of a truly great artist. Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some charts can have several thousand ratings)

This chart has a Bayesian average rating of 83.7/100, a mean average of 80.9/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 83.0/100. The standard deviation for this chart is 18.3.

When I think of the 2000s, I think of punk, post-grunge, and alternative rock. That's almost nonexistent here, or at least ones that I like. I hate country, so we clearly have very different tastes but I don't care. There are some good ones like Green Day, The Killers, Weezer, Modest Mouse, Gorillaz etc., but that's few and far between. Overall, pretty boring and flat.

I couldn't agree more with your decision to list Cold Roses at #1, as it's definitely the album from the 2000s that has meant the most to me. Just a fantastic rock album, bringing together elements that remind me of much of the rock that I loved in the seventies: Grateful Dead and the Rolling Stones especially. I also love Funeral (I know everyone does, but it's for good reason), The Dirty South, Yankee Hotel Foxtrot, and many others from your list. Tons of great Americana here--a fantastic list.

Great chart, love the alt-country feel. Ryan Adams' catalogue is very underrated so good to see the representation here.

I haven't listened to many of the albums so I can't judge completely. However your comments are great, you are a Jayhawks fan like me (I wish we lived in that world where everyone loved RDM), you include other artists and bands I like like Wilco (Being There is great), Muse (you must include OOS!) or The Shins and I see no album I dislike so congrats for the chart.

Man this chart is awesome. 23 albums in common with mine, but i love more than half of the albums on this chart. Never could quite get in to Gomez, maybe hes due for an other listen. Also, havent listened to most of the later stuff by older artists. Anyway, great list!

Good chart mostly, but missing Kid A for certain and In Rainbows at 56? It's better than that for sure.
