Produced by Fleetwood Mac, Ken Cailat & Richard Dashut. This album gets a lot of dislike on this site, but the power of Rumours should not be denied. Blessed with one of rock's best rhythm sections and three excellent songwriters, he first two albums from this lineup set the bar high above where everyone else was in the late 70's. Stevie Nicks was a unique voice: Lindsey Buckingham a stunning guitarist, and everything together, for two whole albums, really worked. Rumours is a masterpiece. Produced by Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young. Neil Young was very much the strongest of these four, and his presence pushed the songwriting of the other three to a new level. Not the there weren't fine songs without him on the previous album, but Crosby ("Almost Cut My Hair", Stills ("Carry On") and Nash ("Teach Your Children")reach new heights with Young, who pushes the trio to greatness. Without him, they quickly digressed into the world of beach rock...not pretty at all. [First added to this chart: 12/04/2011]

Produced by George Harrison & Phil Spector. The very first big rock benefit concert brought together Eric Clapton, Billy Preston, Leon Russell, Ringo Starr, Ravi Shankar and Bob Dylan for one of the greatest live albums ever. Early live performances of George's later Beatles songs and the joy that shines from him onstage makes this worth every second. One of the great shining moments of the seventies, and a joy to listen to each and every time. Will always love you, George. [First added to this chart: 12/04/2011]

Produced by Tom Dowd. Derek & The Dominos was one of the greatest bands ever assembled. Eric Clapton was at the top of his game (before he discovered JJ Cale and got all snoozy), and the addition of Duane Allman was genius. A powerful double album of mostly collaborations within the group and a handful of excellent covers. One of the greatest guitar albums of all time, and one of the best albums of the seventies. The crowning achievement of Clapton...and that's saying a lot. [First added to this chart: 12/04/2011]

Produced by Bob Dylan and The Band. Recorded mostly in Los Angeles in 1974, this is the kind of concert that should happen more often. You get a bunch of songs by just The Band, a handful of solo Dylan tunes, and a whole lot of the magic that was everyone playing all together. This album is often overlooked, and is highly underrated...it may not be perfect, but that wouldn't be a whole lot of fun, now, would it? Part of what can make a show like this so exciting are the flaws, just as much as the shining moments. A historic recording. [First added to this chart: 12/04/2011]

Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some charts can have several thousand ratings)

This chart is rated in the top 4% of all charts on BestEverAlbums.com. This chart has a Bayesian average rating of 89.0/100, a mean average of 88.6/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 89.5/100. The standard deviation for this chart is 10.9.

Too much emphasis on classic rock for a higher rating than 80 sorry. Not a single German album in a decade that was defining for the German music scene??
