Top 100 Greatest Music Albums by DJENNY (2018)

« View previous chartView next chart »

I am just a casual music listener because I am more of a movie guy. But over the last three years I have fallen in love with a bunch of musicians and albums. I know I am still dabbling in finding good music and I hope my choices aren't too basic!

What albums do you love?
What albums do you hate?
What albums would you recommend?

DoolittleUnited States Pixies
Track Picks: All Of Them

When I heard this album my sophomore year in high school I became obsessed with Frank Black's Interplanetary Surfer Rock.

This album is a melded immediately with my ADD-riddled mind. Each song traces back to punk roots. Each song is so short and punchy. After listening to the album the songs, rapid guitar licks and the absurdist lyrics are unable to leave my brain.

Marquee MoonUnited States Television
Track Picks: Venus, Friction, Marquee Moon

Not a single track goes to waste in New York bands' magnum opus. Having come out of the CBGB crowd, Television was one of the last bands of that era to release music, but all that time performing clubs helped the band concentrate on their sound. This album features a total eight songs each one has been crafted to perfection. Every time you hear it, it is like hearing it for the first time.

Good lord, this album kicks so much ass.

Track Picks: 3030, Positive Contact, Mastermind

I'm even surprised this ended up creeping up so far on my list. However Del's concept album with Dan the Automator and Kid Koala comes off without a hitch. Del's has this effortless buttery flow that embraces the beat he spits over. Very few albums paint a future as interesting as MCs in mech-suits fighting the oppressive government with socially conscious hip-hop.

Cool list! Lots of albums I love and wish I could fit in my chart, quite a few I've been meaning to check out but haven't yet and only a small handful that just aren't my thing.

@Sqez I wasn't a fan of "I Can Hear the Heart Beating' either. It was not as sonically dynamic for my liking. I haven't heard of Freddie Hubbard before but I love the other artists you referenced! Tell me what you think off Painful & Deltron!

The Deltron 3030 one and Yo La Tengo - Painful. I was put off Yo La Tengo with their album 'I Can Hear the Heart Beating'. Just wasn't for me, but very recently I shazam'd a song from them I really like and have been meaning to check out their other albums now, so I guess your chart gave me an excuse to :)

I'd recommend any Pavement album (I love all of them, I'm assuming you've heard of them somewhat), The Microphones - The Glow Pt. 2 and hmmm... Open Sesame by Freddie Hubbard? (Jazz)
