My desert island disc. If I had only one album I could listen to ever again I would choose this. After over 25 years of listening to this album I still regularly play it and love it every time with no sign of ever tiring of it. My favourite band ever...I even have a Pixies tattoo.
Vamos is my beloved track, closely followed by Where Is My Mind?. Gigantic is a classic, Cactus is a favourite, and the 1-2 punch of Bone Machine and Break My Body is an awesome start to the album. [First added to this chart: 06/04/2017]
Document was my first favourite REM album, then for a long time it was Automatic For The People. But now this the one I enjoy revisiting the most, despite Stand ;) Actually Stand is not that bad for what is, a feel good upbeat song. But it's the fragile beauty of You Are The Everything, and the emotionally powerful The Wrong Child (such a sad song and a real grower) that keep me coming back. As well as the classic Orange Crush and all the other great songs.
10/10 songs: You Are The Everything, The Wrong Child, Orange Crush, World Leader Pretend, and Pop Song 89. [First added to this chart: 06/04/2017]
I was in my late teens and had heard a bit of Sonic Youth but when I first Teenage Riot, and then Daydream Nation, they blew my mind.
10/10 tracks: Teenage Riot, Silver Rocket, Total Trash, Trilogy [First added to this chart: 06/04/2017]

Don't wear no shoes
Her nose is painted pepper
Sunlight...
She loves me
I mean it's serious
As serious can be..."
It was the late 90's, we were just two young summer loving, grungey hippies in love, having a barefoot wedding in the middle of summer on a 38°C (100°F) day. 20 years later and it's still serious. Summertime Rolls was one of our jams. This whole album was one we really related to, and listened to it a lot those couple of summers and many more after.
10/10 songs: Jane Says (right up there in my favourite songs of all time ), Summertime Rolls, Mountain Song, & Ted, Just Admit It... [First added to this chart: 06/04/2017]
When I first found you
I kept them with me babe
I put them with my own"
Like a fun drunk night. You have party songs (Fiesta, Turkish Song of the Damned), singalongs (Fairytale of New York, Medley), dancing jigs (metropolis), stories (Bottle of Smoke, Sit Down By The Fire), a time to be serious (Streets of Sorrow/Birmingham Six) nostalgia (Thousands are Sailing) and the end of the night (If I Should Fall From The Grace Of God) which starts the album. Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some charts can have several thousand ratings)
This chart is rated in the top 17% of all charts on BestEverAlbums.com. This chart has a Bayesian average rating of 87.3/100, a mean average of 88.6/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 88.6/100. The standard deviation for this chart is 9.3.
