Released: June 1979
39:28
Producer: Martin Hannett
Recorded: 1979 at Strawberry Studios , Stockport England

Fact 1:Martin Hannett used a number of unusual production techniques and sound effects on the album, including several AMS 15-80s digital delays, Marshall Time Modulators, tape echo and bounce, the sound of a bottle smashing, someone eating crisps, backwards guitar , the sound of the Strawberry Studios lift with a leslie speaker whirring inside , the sound of a basement toilet , an aerosol can and Curtis's vocals for "Insight" recorded down a telephone line

Fact 2: Both Sumner and Hook hated 'Unknown Pleasures' when they initially heard the finished album
"The production inflicted this dark, doomy mood over the album ,we'd drawn this picture in black and white, and Martin had coloured it in for us. We resented it , everyone else loved it though, so, we swallowed our pride and went with it" (Bernard Sumner)
"I couldn't hide my disappointment then, it sounded like Pink Floyd" (Peter Hook)

Released: March 1997
54:39
Producers: Tim Freedman and Rob Taylor
Recorded: 1996 to 1997 at Albert Studios , Hipster Studios and Paradise Studios Sydney Australia

Fact 1: The Charlie trilogy of tracks are wrongly misunderstood to be about departed foundation member Stevie Plunder , rather Tim Freedman has confirmed the 3 tracks are about 3 different male characters who have been a part of his life

Fact 2: prior to release Tim Freedman left cassette copies in each pigeon hole of national alternative radio Triple J . Each tape was identified with a single line - "A Letter To You" which was an ode to the opening lines from the album . Needless to say this marketing strategy paid off and the album quickly gained regular rotation on the station going on to be a massive hit
