"Semper Femina" is an album about women, by a woman. There's nothing about men on this album, though not to say it attacks men or anything, they're just not here. Laura Marling has always been a strong songwriter and has consistently put out solid folk albums, and "Semper Femina" is yet another good album from her. This is an elegant, intimate, complex album, and is more proof that Laura Marling is one of the better folk musicians out there. [First added to this chart: 12/06/2017]

I See You feels like the most cohesive The xx's identity has ever been. Their debut album was a surprise to a lot of people, and I don't think they'll ever truly be able to duplicate it. Coexist felt like it was trying to hard to not live in their debut's shadow, but I See You features the band as a total cohesive unit. "On Hold" is, for me, the best song The xx has ever created. It blends the talents of Oliver Sim and Romy Madley Croft as singers and guitar/bassists with Jamie xx's subtle, yet essential sampling. This doesn't feel like a Jamie xx-dominated album (and it could considering the fame the guy has made for himself now), nor does it feel like an album dominated by Sim and Croft, it's a perfect blend of all three, making it an album that is uniquely The xx, but simultaneously a step forward for the band. Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs, one of the most annoying band names to write because I never remember how many "Pigs" are in it (it's seven), owe a lot to Black Sabbath, as just about any and all doom metal bands do. But in particular, Pigs emulate Sabbath in a very distinct way. They're heavier, and they don't copy Sabbath, but you can easily hear the influence. Feed The Rats is a thick, heavy album. It's three tracks, two long, plodding, dirge-like tracks with a brief four-and-a-half minute track aptly titled "Sweet Relief" in between. The opening track, "Psychopomp", has a real space psych feel to it. It's guttural and simultaneously hypnotic. The final track, "Icon", complements "Psychopomp" very well, as it feels like the polar opposite. It starts quiet and then blasts you at the end. Feed The Rats is an album that will drown you in its sound, and luckily, it's something worth drowning in. [First added to this chart: 10/19/2017]

Children Of Alice is an interesting experiment in the world of musique concrète. It's an uneasy album that never settles down, it's often kind of all over the place, full of random bursts of sound and whatnot, but the randomness is what makes it interesting. It doesn't sound like some hodgepodge of an album, rather it sounds like a collage, a bunch of different things all thrown together to make one cohesive idea. [First added to this chart: 09/13/2017]
