The great American rock record. Personifies youth, hope, and the American dream with some of the greatest rock & roll lyrics ever written. The storytelling and vivid imagery turn the four songs listed below into short films. I can visualize the characters and the scenes in my head. It's romantic, thrilling, and dramatic. Out of Bruce's 15+ albums this is the one that stands above the rest as his most ambitious and greatest artistic statement. There is not a bad song on this record and the Phil Spector wall of sound makes it sound like "the last album you'll ever hear" according to Bruce. Legendary.

Oh yeah and the Jungleland sax solo may be one of the most beautiful pieces of music I've ever heard.

Favorite tracks: Thunder Road, Backstreets, Born to Run, Jungleland (just listen to the whole thing)

Sophisticated pop at its finest and a true 60's masterpiece. Excellent from start to finish. Even the instrumental interludes (Let's Go Away for a While and Pet Sounds) are enjoyable listens. Every song is amazing, but God Only Knows is the obvious standout. Maybe the most gorgeous song of all-time.

Favorite tracks: Wouldn't It Be Nice, Don't Talk (Put Your Head on My Shoulder), Sloop John B, God Only Knows (every song is amazing)

Never liked rap but this album changed all of that for me. After listening to Wesley's Theory, I got it. Politically-charged rapping mixed with jazz, soul, and funk? It clicked. This album is beautiful in how it embodies African-American culture and exposes the listener to different points of view than their own. This album isn't just music. It's poetry, art, and most of all a statement about race and social issues very prevalent in America today. Kendrick is one of the greatest artists of his generation and this is his sprawling and immersive masterpiece.

Foo Fighters started my musical obsession back in 2011. Over time, this has become the Foo album I've gravitated towards most frequently. Nothing Left to Lose is like comfort food to me. My personal favorite Foos record features the band at their most melodic. Not exactly the grunginess Nirvana-like self-titled or the massive stadium-friendly Colour and the Shape, Nothing Left to Lose is their most "chill" record.

I love the heaviness of Stacked Actors, the punkiness of Breakout, the 70's rock influenced Learn to Fly and Generator, and the catchiness of Next Year. It's still Foo Fighters, so it still rocks out, but to a lesser extent and with a newfound diversity of styles. I like the chilled-out trio that made this record. They wrote really simple and really great songs. As an album, this is Foo Fighters' greatest pure songwriting achievement.

Aurora is one of the most beautiful songs ever written and is the only Foos song that comes close to the level of Everlong. Gorgeous tune.

I remember listening to this album in the car with my dad when I was three years old. It's my first musical memory and this album may be responsible for developing my music taste. While this album has its weak points (Crush on You, You Can Look but You Better Not Touch, and Ramrod are B-side material to me), it's full of life. The River brings you up, down, then back up again. This album represents life, full of struggles, joy, heartbreak, and hope. Springsteen does what he does best and paints a picture of the American dream...or the American reality.

This album is a little long though and has some filler tracks. Some of the songs that didn't make the album ended up on Tracks Disc 2 and many of them are fantastic. Restless Nights, Roulette, Where the Bands Are, Loose Ends, Take Em as They Come, and Be True (in my opinion, Bruce's best song that never made a studio album) are all worthy River outtakes found on Tracks Disc 2. Bruce was writing good song after good song between 1978 and 1980 so even the leftovers were awesome.

Very fortunate to have seen Bruce perform this album live in its entirety not once but twice. Those concerts were more than music. They were a journey.

The most angry and aggressive album in all of Bruce's discography, yet still the songs are full of hope and promise. Only The Boss could do that. The tracks on this LP range from the country-influenced anthem of "Promised Land" to the punkish and brooding "Adam Raised a Cain," and somehow Springsteen manages to tie it all together. All of these cuts are better live ("Prove It All Night" with the extended live intro is truly legendary) and the Darkness Tour of 1978-1979 may be the greatest of Springsteen's illustrious live history. Check out 7/7/78 from The Roxy, 8/9/78 from The Agora Ballroom, and 12/15/78 Winterland for fantastic performances of many of the songs on Darkness. The Agora live version of "Darkness on the Edge of Town" is special and encompasses the vibe and feel of the album in a nutshell. The Boss turned his frustrations surrounding a legal and contractual dispute into an intense and inspiring album and concert tour for the ages. [First added to this chart: 10/19/2017]
