Uniform help to flesh out the talented metal duo The Body to create an emotionally exhausting record. The wails that the latter band are known for are now surrounded by dense instrumentation that matches their anguished mood. 'Mental Wounds Not Healing' marks another collaborative success for The Body and does a lot to showcase the talent that Uniform can bring to the table. [First added to this chart: 06/16/2018]

SOPHIE's debut album does an amazing job of getting very poppy and very harsh sounds to stand alongside each other quite naturally. The slightly tense feel to the lighter tracks, and the euphoric feel to the heavier ones help stop these twists and turns in the album from being in any way jarring. I haven't heard another electronic album that captures these differences so well, and by the time you've reached finale 'Whole New World', you feel like you've really been in one. 'Kids See Ghosts' uses its short run time to remain good for almost all of it's duration, but it doesn't feel like a complete project, as a album or as an EP. The production is mostly great, especially on closer 'Cudi Montage' where it perfectly matches the emotions expressed on the track. Cudi's on his best form in years here, and Ye is remarkably improved upon his performances on an album released just a week earlier. However, it does feel like the artists have a fair amount to say here, but just don't have the time to say it. This makes it particularly annoying when 'Reborn' and the title track drag on for much longer than they need to. [First added to this chart: 06/13/2018]

Psychedelic trap is here! Travis Scott's third album may be overlong but some of the tracks here are so good that most criticisms disappear into the background. Additionally nothing here sounds that bad. 'Stargazing' and 'Sicko Mode' are maximalist triumphs that have instrumentals perfectly tailored for whoever is performing over them. 'Stop Trying to be God' uses the very best of Kid Cudi and James Blake to create the highlight track of the album. What also shows is Travis' versatility. He sounds right over every beat and alongside every feature, even on closer 'Coffee Bean' which marks big lyrical and sonic change in pace, but succeeds nonetheless. A brilliant trap album whose features include a wide range of the best that the subgenre has to offer. Travis Scott continues his winning streak on 'Overdue' and 'Only 1', 21 Savage demonstrates again that his best work comes from his collaborations with Metro, and Young Thug is at his best on his tracks here. The record gets less interesting in the last few tracks, but the beats here are some of the best you'll hear on any trap album this year. [First added to this chart: 11/10/2018]
