Top 100 Music Albums of 2018 by babyBlueSedan
Guess it's about time I make one of these. I've been pretty ambivalent about listening to music lately so I haven't listened to much from 2018, but I'll throw what I have heard here. If you want to know how this chart works check my other recent year charts because I'm too lazy to paste it here. Basically check out anything I rated 65 or above.
Now 45% less apathetic, with (mostly nonsensical) genres!
**Update 2/19/20: The first post-2018 update has arrived. Only messed with the stuff at 70 or higher

Hypnagogic art pop
This is a pretty wacky album but never feels truly over-the-top or exciting. And a lot of the lyrics are in that weird "think they're deep but they're not" zone. [First added to this chart: 05/03/2018]
Sludge doom
These massive albums usually either hit me right away or don't hit me at all. I've listened to this a few times and haven't taken much away from it. The sludgier parts make it a bit difficult for me to appreciate the doomier parts. [First added to this chart: 10/19/2018]
DMT-techno
I wanted to like this, but I ended up liking it less than Immunity. The 10 minute song is really enjoyable, but a lot of the ambient tracks don't add anything. [First added to this chart: 06/07/2018]
Druggy party rap
I almost didn't listen to this because it's like 70 minutes long, and it definitely feels it's length. The first 5 tracks or so are all bangers, but it really runs out of steam after a while. I like all three rappers but really only Meechy has an interesting personality, meaning it's hard to latch onto most of the others' verses. Also, there are a few songs that feel way too dark for the sake of being dark - especially the one where Meechy just talks about killing himself for like two minutes. Headstone and Vacation are A+ but nothing else stood out to me. [First added to this chart: 06/06/2018]
Sequel rap
I'll be honest - I was never going to give this a fair chance because there was no way it was going to live up to the original Dr. Octagon album. It's nice enough, and the production is great, but it just isn't that exciting. The lyrics usually are trying way too hard to reach 90s Kool Kieth weirdness, but the concept also seems to get abandoned pretty early on. [First added to this chart: 06/06/2018]
Alternative R&B
Nothing about this grabbed me. Her voice is nice enough but none of the songs stuck with me. [First added to this chart: 06/06/2018]
Beach House
Beach House just isn't for me - I need to accept this. This doesn't stand out from anything else they've done to me, and while I admit it's pleasant I don't have any desire to hear it again. [First added to this chart: 06/07/2018]
Dance pop
I thought about making the genre "gay pop" but I thought that would sound dismissive. This is an album with interesting lyrical content, but my problem is that while it's trying to feel a little dark and lonesome the music does not reflect that at all. I like the title track a lot but don't much care about any of the rest. [First added to this chart: 10/19/2018]
Sunshine math pop
The more math rock I listen to, the more I realize I like the idea of it more than the real thing. But unfortunately the complexity often drowns out whatever enjoyment I get out of the songs. Even on this album, which is basically Animal Collective with the Beach Boys influence and the steel drums dialed up to 11. I like the sound, but none of the songs are very good. The Animal Collective similarities are also a bit distracting; I've never been a huge AnCo fan but during a lot of the songs I wish I was listened to something off Strawberry Jam or Merriweather instead. Unfair, but true. [First added to this chart: 11/23/2018]
Hopefully there's a full album coming rap
I can't blame Vince for having some fun, and honestly the raps and beats here are great. As always Vince has some great lyrics, "house so big need Kanye lipo" chief among them. But it feels inconsequential coming from the rapper who's made some of the decade's most fully-realized albums, and I would never want to hear this instead of Big Fish Theory. I hope to hear a full album from him soon, and if you like Vince give this a listen. But don't expect too much. [First added to this chart: 11/19/2018]

A lot of hard work happens in the background to keep BEA running, and it's especially difficult to do this when we can't pay our hosting fees :(
