Easily one of the best psychedelic-rock albums in the last 20 years. Innerspeaker was a great debut album but Tame Impala really outdid themselves (or himself I guess) with Lonerism. Not really sure what else to say. Great production, thought provoking lyrics, and beautiful instrumentation and a distinct voice and style make this a very easy album to fall in love with. It's not perfect, there are a couple weaker songs in the second half, including the closer. This isn't enough to throw off the vibe of the album though.

Have to say, after making two great rock albums, it was a little disappointing that the follow up went in such a different direction. Hopefully one day Kevin Parker will return to his roots but until then at least he's still making great music. This album is definitely more of a grower than the other two. Parker's psychedelic vibes fit very well with the electronic genre. Watching how Tame Impala has evolved this decade has been fascinating. One could argue that Currents is a better, or more cohesive, package than the previous two projects. There is a great flow that always makes me want to stay for the next song. Unfortunately, this album has a decent amount of filler songs. Past Life, for example, has a good chorus but the rest of the song is full of distorted, spoken lyrics, and way too many layers of synth. It's the closest this album gets to a bad song in my opinion. Some of the other songs are a little boring at times but luckily the highlights are all fantastic. The best songs on Currents are easily some of the greatest songs of the decade. Even if people don't like the direction Parker has gone in with this album, it's impossible to deny his skills as a composer and producer.
