Top 100 Greatest Music Albums by LordMark

Alternative rock is my favourite genre, and that's why the 90s will probably always be my favourite decade of music. I also love Britpop (the best of which also comes from the 90s) and South Korean girl groups.

In the chorus of "Mis-Shapes", frontman Jarvis Cocker says, "We're making a move, we're making it now, we're coming out of the sidelines." Judging by these lyrics, Pulp knew that Different Class was going to be their definitive moment even while they were recording it. For nearly an hour, Jarvis Cocker lets you know that he's horny and wants to have sex with... pretty much everybody, and yet he still somehow manages to sound both clever and charmingly British in the process.

Rest In Peace, Sulli (1994-2019)

Pink Tape contains a melting pot of musical influences, and yet it still somehow manages to be the most cohesive K-pop album that I've heard. It's too bad that Korean record labels only release one single per album because in addition to "Rum Pum Pum Pum", I think that "Airplane" and "Step" could have been big hits as well. Also, what the hell was Ariana Grande (and/or her management) thinking when they turned down "No More"? The song is freaking excellent. Oh well. Ariana's loss is F(x)'s gain.

Released in March 1990, Violator was the album that ushered in what was (and probably always will be) my favourite decade of music. Black Celebration laid the groundwork for Depeche Mode's sound, Music for the Masses gave it more commercial appeal, and Violator perfected it.

I love how it starts off dark and depressing with "Rotten Apple" and "Nutshell", and then suddenly becomes lighter with "I Stay Away" and "No Excuses". The last 3 songs are good, especially "Don't Follow", but it's those first 4 masterpieces that got Jar of Flies a placement on this list I've made.

Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some charts can have several thousand ratings)

This chart is rated in the top 5% of all charts on BestEverAlbums.com. This chart has a Bayesian average rating of 88.9/100, a mean average of 90.2/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 90.2/100. The standard deviation for this chart is 6.3.

It's different, but that is what makes this site such a delight. Thanks for wearing your heart in your chart. I will have a look at some of your choices that are new to me - like Econoline Crush.

Wow. Naveed at Number 2. I've got Clumsy in my Top 100 and Naveed a little further down. It's always great to see OLP.

Definitely more 90s focused than most charts you see, but still some wonderful albums and many I haven't heard of and would be interested in checking out. I'm really intrigued by all the K-Pop!
