Top 100 Greatest Music Albums by LordMark

Alternative rock is my favourite genre, and that's why the 90s will probably always be my favourite decade of music. I also love Britpop (the best of which also comes from the 90s) and South Korean girl groups.

I have a confession. I love Korean girl groups, and Girls' Generation is (and probably always will be) my favourite one of them all. As much as I adore Love & Peace, I always get a bit sad when I listen to it because, in many ways, it was the end of an era. This was their final Japanese studio album, and their last one with member Jessica Jung.

Having spent more than 3 years establishing themselves as an iconic group in South Korea, Girls' Generation hit the ground running when they started promoting in Japan. It certainly didn't hurt that their Japanese debut had an excellent lead single ("Mr. Taxi"), a bunch of great album tracks, and Japanese versions of their Korean hits.

It's not too often that a band goes on hiatus for nearly 15 years, and then returns with their best album to date, but that's exactly what happened with Moist. David Usher's voice sounds just as great as it did in the 90s.

It has a similar sound to The King of Limbs, but it's a bit lighter and more accessible this time around, and the songs are definitely stronger.

When Suede disbanded shortly after the release of 2002's A New Morning, Brett Anderson said, "I need to do whatever it takes to get my demon back." And while 2013's Bloodsports was a great comeback album for Suede, I still believe that it was on this follow-up that Brett's "demon" began to thrive again. And even though he was almost 50 when Night Thoughts was recorded, Brett's voice is as excellent as it's ever been.

Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some charts can have several thousand ratings)

This chart is rated in the top 5% of all charts on BestEverAlbums.com. This chart has a Bayesian average rating of 88.9/100, a mean average of 90.2/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 90.2/100. The standard deviation for this chart is 6.3.

It's different, but that is what makes this site such a delight. Thanks for wearing your heart in your chart. I will have a look at some of your choices that are new to me - like Econoline Crush.

Wow. Naveed at Number 2. I've got Clumsy in my Top 100 and Naveed a little further down. It's always great to see OLP.

Definitely more 90s focused than most charts you see, but still some wonderful albums and many I haven't heard of and would be interested in checking out. I'm really intrigued by all the K-Pop!
