What an odd year for music. It was definitely good but it was so far removed from my expectations of what I thought I would be listening to this year. I had no idea I'd be listening to Taylor Swift all the time or that Sufjan would drop a great album. Not to mention how many of my favorite albums are from artists I wasn't familiar with before this year. Lots of surprises and lots of great records.

It doesn't feel like any Gorillaz album before, and really as far as albums go overall it's pretty unique. Each song is designed to stand on their own hence the format for how almost every song was released before the albums release and even then the ones that didn't drop before were released with music videos afterwards. That makes for an album where every song feels like it could be enjoyed by someone even if all of them aren't my favorite (pink Phanton is not a pleasant listen for me) Even then the strong songs are so strong with my favorites being Aries, Momentary Bliss and Pac Man.

Honestly the first couple tracks didn't impress me but it escalates in quality swiftly with I know Alone and Up From A Dream, really great psych pop

It's odd seeing as how none of The Used past records made any sort of impact on me yet this one had song after song that I was coming back to. The opener especially with that gnarly hook, clean cut heels, obvious blase, and lighthouse.
