Top 100 Greatest Music Albums by Crhmgs

Edit: 12/03/2021 this is today's chart of the day, I just want to thank you all for being so nice and reciprocating, there are a lot of artists that I must check out and a lot of things i must put in order before finishing this, to be honest with you, I don't know if i will ever get to finish it, not because I don't want to, but because I don't have too much time nowadays, but yeah, whenever I have the chance to, i will re-visit this chart, delete albums, add albums, etc.

Look, this chart is a mess, mostly because i can't bring myself to advance as much as i would like to. But my idea is to make a chart that it's as equally divided; filled with popular records and with records that i think deserve more attention, a 50/50, if you will... But I don't have that kind of knowledge yet, well, maybe that isn't it, i think it's mostly that i want to pick records that i'll be comfortable with, and as of today i would say im about 30% happy with this chart, and look, I don't want to sound like a total indie guy or like someone who hasn't an opinion on his own either, or maybe even both. i'll try to utilize every space in this chart to say how i feel about the record and why i love it so much and give a little bit of trivia in the process, sometimes i will get so inspired that i will even try to write some bloody awful poetry, even if i know i might not have the widest vocabulary to do it. I do think that the one artist per chart rule is fair, but i don't want to use it, because there are so many records/artists i think they deserve all my love, even if they already had more than enough of it, lol, but that will change in the future (IT DID, SEE "EDIT") it's not like Radiohead or The Strokes need more points on BEA than they already have, so I don't know, we'll see... I do appreciate all feedback and even appreciate that you are here looking at this mess, i will update here each descriptions i have done, if you want to check them out you are free to do so, cause i honestly don't have any idea of when i'm going to finish this, but yeah, that's it.

I might be a lazy af, but when i do get to write, i write a lot (most of the time) so BEWARE.

Ohhh and some of the records have descriptions in both spanish and english just for the sake of it and because they actually help me to get my thoughts together and to do a more focused inspection on the record, BUT i will translate all that, so don't worry.

Descrpitions made so far:

- Bob Dylan - Blonde On Blonde
- The Afghan Whigs - Gentlemen
- Kanye West - The College Dropout
- Modest Mouse - Good News For People Who Love Bad News (This record has now been removed from this chart, but the original description is in my other chart, which is a recollection of the records that were in here, but for a reason were eliminated)
- GZA- Liquid Swords
- Yes - Fragile
- Buena Vista Social Club - Buena Vista Social Club
-Maroon 5 - Songs About Jane
-Silversun Pickups - Carnavas
-The Doors - Morrison Hotel
-The Cars - The Cars
-Babasónicos - Jessico (already translated)
-Pre)Thing - 22nd Century Lifestyle

Well, if you see more descriptions that aren't mentioned in here it might be because a) they aren't finished yet b) they suck... But anyway you are free to read them as well, I will try to finish them/improve them later... i just had a Déjà vu about this...

Well, enjoy!

EDIT: I'm totally convinced now that this chart sucks lol, don't get me wrong, I do love every single record i picked, but there is so much wasted potential and empty spaces that all in all, it just doesn't feel right, so I finally decided to improve it a little bit. You see, my biggest fear with this chart was not being able to give as many points as i think an artists deserve, and. I am truly sorry for every record that was left behind, i wish i could give every one of them 100 points, haha, but since i can't do that i will do my best to make this chart look how i think it should look. So as of now, i will apply the one artist per chart rule (EXCEPT for The Afghan Whigs, I really love that band) And additionally, i will do another chart with the albums that were eliminated from their position within the chart and also i will do another with my favorite records, so i won't have to be limited by the same rule again.

I know Morrison Hotel might be a weird pick in The Doors discography, hell, i prefer their debut or L.A. woman over this one, cause i really think those are better records... so why did i choose Morrison Hotel? well, simply put, i think this record is underrated; even if i don't think it's best Doors record, i surely believe Morrsion Hotel it's one of their most fun listens, so, let me put it this way; if i had to pick one record of The Doors discography merely based on the fun i had listening, i would pick this one any day.

Okay, so Morrison Hotel is the fifth record in the discography of legendary Californian band; The Doors, band who made it big in the rock scene on the second half of the sixties with their self titled debut record... it was revolutionary, sexy and psychedelic and also some of the most notable songs on the record are some of the most influential and loved rock songs of all time, including the incredibly short but extremely explosive "Break on Through", the iconic "Light My Fire" and of course the haunting "The End". Three albums later and some harsh critics reviews, Morrison Hotel brought back The Doors in style, and while there might not be any hit that is regardad to be as good as the best material on their debut, don't let that fool you, cause there are some of their greatest song ever in this thing, this is a collection of fun, complex and surreal songs that might never get out of your head. The record has eleven tracks, and it is around 40 minutes long and there's not a single bad song.

Jim Morrsion's talent to write poetry about love, women and of course, Indians goes even further with this record as he deepens into abstract and hauting imagery of "Blood on the streets in the town of Chicago" in the super catchy but surreal track Peace Frog, or the "Scattered sun" in the masterful track Waiting for the sun. There's so much going on in here. Whether it be because of the weird atmosphere and imagination trip that this record puts you in with all the imagery of one waking up to a 70's party in California, a morning in the summer passin' trough the non-existing breeze of a desolated highway while at the back of the rear view mirror you see ghosts of indians on the street, indians on the playground walking through the middle of nowhere, or because somehow, Jim manages to make a mood out of this whole thing or because, you can find some of the most memorable riffs that Robby Krieger ever dic at the time, it doesn't really matter, it all boils down to this; Morrison Hotel is an absolute classic and you should go and give it a try if you haven't.

Favourite Tracks:

-Roadhouse Blues: There's nothing this track does bad, and has my single favourite Jim Morrison performance ever; the "Save our city"scream, gets my soul out of place, what an amazing voice. Super cool track.

-Waiting For The Sun: The guitar in the chorus of this chaotic track is great, Robby is the man, for sure.

-Peace Frog: This was actually the first Door's song i ever listened to, and has been a personal favourite of mine since, such a fun song to listen to, and like i said before, it has one of the best lyrics Jim ever wrote, well, at least in my opinion.

Ahhh, Jesico.

TRANSLATION:

Ahhh, Jesico. The most recognized/critically acclaimed record from the now legendary argentinian band Babasónicos. Nuff said, they might be my favourite spanish-speaking band out there. My relationship with the band started some years ago, when i was in elementary school and i vividly remember the first song that i heard from them; it was their catchy yet daring track"Y Qué" while i was watching some music videos on VH1 (To this very day, i still love the video) The song is directly extracted from what would be Babasónicos next record"Infame", which is also pretty good and has some tracks that i like a lot, but i'm steering away from the main topic. Thing is, even if Jessico is not the greatest album in spanish and it might even be a weird experience for newcomers to the band, it is in fact a pretty good record, that has become a classic, more specifically, a classic for latin-america and spanish-speaking countries. And since it has been almost two decades since the record first came out, it was a time where rock was inevitably coming back, and in USA and UK with so many great bands to choose from; The Strokes, Queens Of The Stone Age, Muse and even Coldplay being some of the most popular examples, here we had a fewer options, one of the most reliable being Babasónicos, with what might be their best record, Jessico. If you give it a chance, this could turn into an interesting experience (maybe even experimental) it's worth the try, even if you don't speak the language.

This is the 6th full-lenght studio record from Babasónicos and it opens with their fun, catchy and wild "Los Calientes" and it ends with the powerful "Atomicum". The record is about 40 minutes long (including the editions where a live version of "Fizz" appears at the end of the record) First of all, i feel obliged to say that the record has a pretty characteristic sound to it, even more than past projects of the band like "Babasónica". There is a lot more instrumentation going on in this thing, which works pretty well with the particular feelings "Jessico" wants to portray, for example there's a shamisen (japanese string instrument) on the track "El Loco", that adds so much to the personality and the tone of the song, an impossible mysitque vibe, i would say. this without mentioning the fact that the mysterious shamisen belonged to the lengendary singer/songwriter Charly Garcia, which makes the story a bit more surreal than it should be. One of the problems i found with the record is the song "Soy Rock" with it's cut-like nothing ever happened riff at the end of the song makes me anxious (not the good kind of anxiety), even worse, the song kinda interpolates sounds from the classic Twisted Sister track "I Wanna Rock" and it just sounds so lame to me. BUT, besides "Soy Rock"i don't have a lot to complain. Jessico feels really well distribuited; every song is where they should be and the quality is there; weather it be with the saracstic "Fizz" or with the almost-desrtic like "Yoli" Dárgelos's lyrics prove the man knows how to write a song. Overall "Jessico" it's not just a Babasónicos record, IT'S THE BABASÓNICOS RECORD.

Favourite Tracks:

Los Calientes: My favourite song from the record and one of the best Babasónicos songs, period. having a blast trough the novelty-like Argentinian streets at night in 2001.

Deléctrico: "VA A VENIR, NO VA A VENIR, DELÉCTRICO" Great song, catchy af, and fun

El Loco: Shamisen masterpiece at the first half of the record; a build up that let's you down, in the best possible way, like longing for something, but getting what you need instead.

Rubí: It might be the most beautiful track on the whole record, a quiet and passionate track forcing you to surrender to Dárgelos words.

I' have always been drawn to intimacy, and that's exactly what Euphoria is, if i were to describe this record with
a few words, it would probably be " to be close" specially with the song "Darling Effect". And even though not every song in the record is gold i really think it's pretty underated and maybe even unknown, which is a shame because of how good a lot of songs here are. Yes, the vocals might be too BJörk-ish, some songs are not that intereseting, but the personal feeling that is at the very core of this record absolutely screams things i haven't heard anywhere else.

The best example i can give you of an "unexisting vibe" to me, 22nd Century Lifestyle is a pretty unique record with all those guitars and grunge-like vocals. It is often considered a Nu-metal record and i can see why, even if a great deal of time it might not resemble to a lot of artists on the genre... But there is much more to it, this record has an interesting background actually, and i'm kind of a nerd, so that's the kind of things i love.

Crazy Town's guitarist at the time, Rust Epique had several disagreements with the band after their succesful record "The Gift of Game" which is widley known for having the track "Butterfly" on it. After leaving Crazy Town, Epique went on to do some solo stuff and then years later he formed a new band called "Pre)Thing" that in my opinion, would be something much better and a lot more interesting (but not as popular) than maybe anything Crazy Town did in the past... Legendary sound engineer and producer Andy Jones, who is known for working in some of the most quintessential albums of all time, such as Led Zeppelin IV, Sticky Fingers and Marquee Moon produced this thing, which i think it adds a lot to the peculiar vibe that 22nd Century Lifestyle strived for. Sadly, Epique died of a heart attack, just a month before releasing the record, leaving us with this as his legacy... and i take it.

This thing is good; it has an atmosphere that a very few records are able to achieve... i would describe this as a sort of distorted and futurstic take on grunge, but with a kind of nostalgia feeling to it that you won't find anywhere else. Lyrically, it might not blow your mind, but it's not that bad either, however the vocals are quite good, i would say it's a mix between Chino Moreno and Kurt Cobain, without going further to an extreme or the other. I love the drums and guitar solos on the track "One + X" and the track "Arizona" reminds me a bit to Nirvana as well, more specifically in the beginning and in the chorus, Epique's screams and the way the guitars sound, reminds me a lot to "Breed" and i guess that adds a lot to the resemblance. "Faded Love" was the first and only song that made its way into the billboard mainstream rock charts of the band, i would not say it is exactly the highlight of the record, but it's a good song and i like the solo too. Where the record truly shines it's on it's first half; "Can't Stop" is one of my favourite songs ever and i also happen to love "Staay Alive". Overall 22nd Century Lifestyle might be a simplistic listen, some songs are longer than they need to, there are production choices that sound weird, BUT, if you are into 00's post-grunge/nu-metal/alternative scene, give it a try, cause it's very likely that this might appeal to you... and overall i still love the atmosphere of the record.

Favourite Tracks:

Can't Stop (22nd Century Lifestyle): This song is the reason why i know the band, and i know the band because the song was featured on a wrestling videogame i used to play when i was a kid (the first SVR for the ps2, in case you're wondering) and ever since i first heard the song, i really liked it, but even as a kid i remember thinking about the fact that that this was the only place where i could listen such a great and different song and that made me very sad, because even though im grateful with the game for introducing me to the band (and i'm sure a lot of other people are too) it is just so heart breaking for me to think that Rust only had this one chance to do the thing he loved the most and just very few people actually knew about it, but at least he went out with a bang (i actually teared up a bit while writing this, hahaha). Now that i feel a bit more liberated, let's talk a bit about the song (as perfectionist as i am, i couldn't stand the thing that i wrote before, so i had to start over again): This song has an enormous space, in fact it has so much space that i think that's the reason i feel a void everytime i listen to it, the closest thing to a time machine for me. and a beautiful and memorable riff, Can't Stop is the distant resemblance on a ghost face; you can't pinpoint the beauty of it, cause you don't have to, it's the sadness of it all, the happiness that trascends, the thrill of the moment that you long for, perhaps even the attraction you need to feel something, anything... from time to time... We cannot stop things from the mind, is the feeling of uncertainty that crumbles and whispers trough your neck every time you realize you are alive, and that you'll never be again... This will never get old for me.

Staay Alive: This one has the similar vibes to "Can't Stop"... another impossible feeling. If Can't Stop is the ghost, then Staay Alive is the confined soul, holding it's breathe everytime you cannot express the surface, why you went there in the first place?... Time, an obsession; intangible feelings of the deepest sigh... bring out the memories and nothing else. God, i love this song so much.

Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some charts can have several thousand ratings)

This chart is rated in the top 2% of all charts on BestEverAlbums.com. This chart has a Bayesian average rating of 91.2/100, a mean average of 94.2/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 94.2/100. The standard deviation for this chart is 6.1.

Just here for the descriptions. Your music preference is your own. The justification is what makes the list great. Keep it up.

Always happy to see LCD up on top. Surprised to not see any Arcade Fire / Sigur Ros / War on Drugs. Feel like they'd tie-in well with your other albums on here. Cheers.
