Top 100 Greatest Music Albums by Crhmgs

Edit: 12/03/2021 this is today's chart of the day, I just want to thank you all for being so nice and reciprocating, there are a lot of artists that I must check out and a lot of things i must put in order before finishing this, to be honest with you, I don't know if i will ever get to finish it, not because I don't want to, but because I don't have too much time nowadays, but yeah, whenever I have the chance to, i will re-visit this chart, delete albums, add albums, etc.

Look, this chart is a mess, mostly because i can't bring myself to advance as much as i would like to. But my idea is to make a chart that it's as equally divided; filled with popular records and with records that i think deserve more attention, a 50/50, if you will... But I don't have that kind of knowledge yet, well, maybe that isn't it, i think it's mostly that i want to pick records that i'll be comfortable with, and as of today i would say im about 30% happy with this chart, and look, I don't want to sound like a total indie guy or like someone who hasn't an opinion on his own either, or maybe even both. i'll try to utilize every space in this chart to say how i feel about the record and why i love it so much and give a little bit of trivia in the process, sometimes i will get so inspired that i will even try to write some bloody awful poetry, even if i know i might not have the widest vocabulary to do it. I do think that the one artist per chart rule is fair, but i don't want to use it, because there are so many records/artists i think they deserve all my love, even if they already had more than enough of it, lol, but that will change in the future (IT DID, SEE "EDIT") it's not like Radiohead or The Strokes need more points on BEA than they already have, so I don't know, we'll see... I do appreciate all feedback and even appreciate that you are here looking at this mess, i will update here each descriptions i have done, if you want to check them out you are free to do so, cause i honestly don't have any idea of when i'm going to finish this, but yeah, that's it.

I might be a lazy af, but when i do get to write, i write a lot (most of the time) so BEWARE.

Ohhh and some of the records have descriptions in both spanish and english just for the sake of it and because they actually help me to get my thoughts together and to do a more focused inspection on the record, BUT i will translate all that, so don't worry.

Descrpitions made so far:

- Bob Dylan - Blonde On Blonde
- The Afghan Whigs - Gentlemen
- Kanye West - The College Dropout
- Modest Mouse - Good News For People Who Love Bad News (This record has now been removed from this chart, but the original description is in my other chart, which is a recollection of the records that were in here, but for a reason were eliminated)
- GZA- Liquid Swords
- Yes - Fragile
- Buena Vista Social Club - Buena Vista Social Club
-Maroon 5 - Songs About Jane
-Silversun Pickups - Carnavas
-The Doors - Morrison Hotel
-The Cars - The Cars
-Babasónicos - Jessico (already translated)
-Pre)Thing - 22nd Century Lifestyle

Well, if you see more descriptions that aren't mentioned in here it might be because a) they aren't finished yet b) they suck... But anyway you are free to read them as well, I will try to finish them/improve them later... i just had a Déjà vu about this...

Well, enjoy!

EDIT: I'm totally convinced now that this chart sucks lol, don't get me wrong, I do love every single record i picked, but there is so much wasted potential and empty spaces that all in all, it just doesn't feel right, so I finally decided to improve it a little bit. You see, my biggest fear with this chart was not being able to give as many points as i think an artists deserve, and. I am truly sorry for every record that was left behind, i wish i could give every one of them 100 points, haha, but since i can't do that i will do my best to make this chart look how i think it should look. So as of now, i will apply the one artist per chart rule (EXCEPT for The Afghan Whigs, I really love that band) And additionally, i will do another chart with the albums that were eliminated from their position within the chart and also i will do another with my favorite records, so i won't have to be limited by the same rule again.

My newest addition to this chart is what one could call "pretty recent" and while i agree and was hesitant to put this record here for the same reasons, i think What's Your Pleasure is a super well-crafted record that in my opinion is just as good as anything in the disco/pop genre and i would even dare to say it's even better than records that have came out in the past 40 years or so, and i truly mean that, this record is simply fantastic. "Hysteria when you're near..." Back in the 80's Def Leppard was a great band... a huge band... Their 1983 record "Pyromania" made them widely known in the world of 80's rock, glam metal spceifically, with hits like the awesome and catchy "Photograph" (which i still think is one of the greatest songs of the 80's) and the popular and hooky "Rock Of Ages". After drummer Rick Allen's accident, but it wasn't until the late 80's that Def Leppard would hit it big with the mega succesful "Hysteria". Why do i say mega succesful? well, this one is an special case. Just like Thriller, Rumours and pretty much any Beatles studio record; Hysteria is one of the best-selling albums of all time, yes, this is the reason why Def Leppard stands out so much when you metion 80's bands, well... aside from Bon Jovi and Guns N' Roses, of course. And even if this record was pretty popular back when it was released, Hysteria is amazing... Period. I don't even know if the reason why i said that it's because i have always loved this record, since i was a little kid... or because almost every song in here have a killer and memorable hooks... or maybe, just maybe it's the fact that some of my all time favourite songs are here... whatever it might be the reason i will try to be as unbiased as possible when talking about Hysteria, because i know this record it's far from being perfect.

Even if im not a fan of every production choice of the record, you gotta give the guys credit for this one, this thing it's heavily produced, sometimes overly-produced i might say... but that just adds to the attitude of the record. The album opens with "Women" a song with

Perhaps more widely known for their 80's hits, The Cars had an excellent debut record that even if it was a big deal at the time, now it's typically overshadowed by their more commercial hits, which is a shame, even if some of their 80's hits are really good, i mean, who doesn't love their sad and emotive ride with their hit "Drive"? (which by the way i recommend you to listen the Deftones cover, one of my favourite songs) or the catchy and almost innocent "You Might Think"? or the infectious chorus on "Magic?

Anyway, it was U.S.A. in the late 70's and New Wave was becoming the next big thing; legenedary acts like Blondie and The Talking Heads, or even The Ramones (who are often associated with the genre for their background), were playing the game too, in places like the once super popular but now deceased club CBGB's and even in the UK Elvis Costello was letting england shake too (Ha, good one), but let's leave those bad guys alone for a sec... Let's go a bit east; Boston saw the rise of two guys whom already were in the music industry, but didn't had hit it big just yet, yes, thirty-something Ric Ocasek and Benjamin Orr, just started to drive to success-highway (cause they were The Cars hahaha :/)

The first Cars record is awesome; it's simple, it's catchy, is super fun to listen to... it just doesn't try to hard to have an attitude, because they already had found their own style and ohhh boy, does it work? Released in 1978 The Cars self-titled debut features a russian model in the front cover art and it was such a unique, bizarre and exceptionally good choice, that lady looks like she is about to hit it big just like The Cars did with this record (sorry, that was the last one). With around 35 minutes of run-time and just 9 songs, this record never gets old. The opening track is the excellent, satirical and synth-based "Good Times Roll" which talks about a rock star that's not having a... good time, as the lyrics would suggest. My Best Friend's Girl is the next track, and honestly is my favourite track on the whole record, it's such a good and fun tune that you cannot ignore, i especially love the guitars during the chorus and who said that songs that have clapping can't be good?... well, most aren't really, but this song is great. Then immediately after, what is maybe the greatest Cars track comes to blow the tracklist out of the fucking water "Just What I Needed" is an explosive pop-rock song, that everybody should listen. You're All I've Got Tonight is about a guy who doesn't care to be "mocked" or "knocked" as long as he is with someone, great guitar song, that has some notes that reminds a bit to the intro of "Seek And Destroy" from Metallica. Moving In Stereo is one of the ultimate Cars songs and a personal keeper, it has a much more serious tone in comparison with all the other songs in the record, the synth melody is out of the world. Well, to wrap this whole thing up, i would say this; even if sounds sad, this might be the only really good Cars project, but i think that this quality album and some of their strong singles after were enough to prove that they were a great band.

Favourite Tracks:

-Good Times Roll: Superb song that i think it's appropriate for the opening and setting the mood for this fun ride.

-My Best Friend's Girl: Criminally underrated track in my opinion, it's super fun to listen to and to groove with, i love the little differences in the guitar on the second chorus. TRIVIA: Kurt Cobain played this in his last concert ever, apparently he loved the song.

-Just What I Needed: I Think this is the greatest song The Cars ever made, not because it's rated higher than any other of their tracks here, but because it is good and iconic and makes my head want to explode while i sing the lyrics "IT'S NOT THE PERFUME THAT YOU WEAR... " you actually sang that on your mind didn't you??

-Moving In Stereo: If My Best Friend's Girl is "criminally underrated" like i said, then this one didn't left the building alive. Love this track to death, definitely one of the best ones on the record.

Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some charts can have several thousand ratings)

This chart is rated in the top 2% of all charts on BestEverAlbums.com. This chart has a Bayesian average rating of 91.2/100, a mean average of 94.2/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 94.2/100. The standard deviation for this chart is 6.1.

Just here for the descriptions. Your music preference is your own. The justification is what makes the list great. Keep it up.

Always happy to see LCD up on top. Surprised to not see any Arcade Fire / Sigur Ros / War on Drugs. Feel like they'd tie-in well with your other albums on here. Cheers.
