Top 100 Greatest Music Albums by Crhmgs

Edit: 12/03/2021 this is today's chart of the day, I just want to thank you all for being so nice and reciprocating, there are a lot of artists that I must check out and a lot of things i must put in order before finishing this, to be honest with you, I don't know if i will ever get to finish it, not because I don't want to, but because I don't have too much time nowadays, but yeah, whenever I have the chance to, i will re-visit this chart, delete albums, add albums, etc.

Look, this chart is a mess, mostly because i can't bring myself to advance as much as i would like to. But my idea is to make a chart that it's as equally divided; filled with popular records and with records that i think deserve more attention, a 50/50, if you will... But I don't have that kind of knowledge yet, well, maybe that isn't it, i think it's mostly that i want to pick records that i'll be comfortable with, and as of today i would say im about 30% happy with this chart, and look, I don't want to sound like a total indie guy or like someone who hasn't an opinion on his own either, or maybe even both. i'll try to utilize every space in this chart to say how i feel about the record and why i love it so much and give a little bit of trivia in the process, sometimes i will get so inspired that i will even try to write some bloody awful poetry, even if i know i might not have the widest vocabulary to do it. I do think that the one artist per chart rule is fair, but i don't want to use it, because there are so many records/artists i think they deserve all my love, even if they already had more than enough of it, lol, but that will change in the future (IT DID, SEE "EDIT") it's not like Radiohead or The Strokes need more points on BEA than they already have, so I don't know, we'll see... I do appreciate all feedback and even appreciate that you are here looking at this mess, i will update here each descriptions i have done, if you want to check them out you are free to do so, cause i honestly don't have any idea of when i'm going to finish this, but yeah, that's it.

I might be a lazy af, but when i do get to write, i write a lot (most of the time) so BEWARE.

Ohhh and some of the records have descriptions in both spanish and english just for the sake of it and because they actually help me to get my thoughts together and to do a more focused inspection on the record, BUT i will translate all that, so don't worry.

Descrpitions made so far:

- Bob Dylan - Blonde On Blonde
- The Afghan Whigs - Gentlemen
- Kanye West - The College Dropout
- Modest Mouse - Good News For People Who Love Bad News (This record has now been removed from this chart, but the original description is in my other chart, which is a recollection of the records that were in here, but for a reason were eliminated)
- GZA- Liquid Swords
- Yes - Fragile
- Buena Vista Social Club - Buena Vista Social Club
-Maroon 5 - Songs About Jane
-Silversun Pickups - Carnavas
-The Doors - Morrison Hotel
-The Cars - The Cars
-Babasónicos - Jessico (already translated)
-Pre)Thing - 22nd Century Lifestyle

Well, if you see more descriptions that aren't mentioned in here it might be because a) they aren't finished yet b) they suck... But anyway you are free to read them as well, I will try to finish them/improve them later... i just had a Déjà vu about this...

Well, enjoy!

EDIT: I'm totally convinced now that this chart sucks lol, don't get me wrong, I do love every single record i picked, but there is so much wasted potential and empty spaces that all in all, it just doesn't feel right, so I finally decided to improve it a little bit. You see, my biggest fear with this chart was not being able to give as many points as i think an artists deserve, and. I am truly sorry for every record that was left behind, i wish i could give every one of them 100 points, haha, but since i can't do that i will do my best to make this chart look how i think it should look. So as of now, i will apply the one artist per chart rule (EXCEPT for The Afghan Whigs, I really love that band) And additionally, i will do another chart with the albums that were eliminated from their position within the chart and also i will do another with my favorite records, so i won't have to be limited by the same rule again.

Ahhh, Jesico.

TRANSLATION:

Ahhh, Jesico. The most recognized/critically acclaimed record from the now legendary argentinian band Babasónicos. Nuff said, they might be my favourite spanish-speaking band out there. My relationship with the band started some years ago, when i was in elementary school and i vividly remember the first song that i heard from them; it was their catchy yet daring track"Y Qué" while i was watching some music videos on VH1 (To this very day, i still love the video) The song is directly extracted from what would be Babasónicos next record"Infame", which is also pretty good and has some tracks that i like a lot, but i'm steering away from the main topic. Thing is, even if Jessico is not the greatest album in spanish and it might even be a weird experience for newcomers to the band, it is in fact a pretty good record, that has become a classic, more specifically, a classic for latin-america and spanish-speaking countries. And since it has been almost two decades since the record first came out, it was a time where rock was inevitably coming back, and in USA and UK with so many great bands to choose from; The Strokes, Queens Of The Stone Age, Muse and even Coldplay being some of the most popular examples, here we had a fewer options, one of the most reliable being Babasónicos, with what might be their best record, Jessico. If you give it a chance, this could turn into an interesting experience (maybe even experimental) it's worth the try, even if you don't speak the language.

This is the 6th full-lenght studio record from Babasónicos and it opens with their fun, catchy and wild "Los Calientes" and it ends with the powerful "Atomicum". The record is about 40 minutes long (including the editions where a live version of "Fizz" appears at the end of the record) First of all, i feel obliged to say that the record has a pretty characteristic sound to it, even more than past projects of the band like "Babasónica". There is a lot more instrumentation going on in this thing, which works pretty well with the particular feelings "Jessico" wants to portray, for example there's a shamisen (japanese string instrument) on the track "El Loco", that adds so much to the personality and the tone of the song, an impossible mysitque vibe, i would say. this without mentioning the fact that the mysterious shamisen belonged to the lengendary singer/songwriter Charly Garcia, which makes the story a bit more surreal than it should be. One of the problems i found with the record is the song "Soy Rock" with it's cut-like nothing ever happened riff at the end of the song makes me anxious (not the good kind of anxiety), even worse, the song kinda interpolates sounds from the classic Twisted Sister track "I Wanna Rock" and it just sounds so lame to me. BUT, besides "Soy Rock"i don't have a lot to complain. Jessico feels really well distribuited; every song is where they should be and the quality is there; weather it be with the saracstic "Fizz" or with the almost-desrtic like "Yoli" Dárgelos's lyrics prove the man knows how to write a song. Overall "Jessico" it's not just a Babasónicos record, IT'S THE BABASÓNICOS RECORD.

Favourite Tracks:

Los Calientes: My favourite song from the record and one of the best Babasónicos songs, period. having a blast trough the novelty-like Argentinian streets at night in 2001.

Deléctrico: "VA A VENIR, NO VA A VENIR, DELÉCTRICO" Great song, catchy af, and fun

El Loco: Shamisen masterpiece at the first half of the record; a build up that let's you down, in the best possible way, like longing for something, but getting what you need instead.

Rubí: It might be the most beautiful track on the whole record, a quiet and passionate track forcing you to surrender to Dárgelos words.

Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some charts can have several thousand ratings)

This chart is rated in the top 2% of all charts on BestEverAlbums.com. This chart has a Bayesian average rating of 91.2/100, a mean average of 94.2/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 94.2/100. The standard deviation for this chart is 6.1.

Just here for the descriptions. Your music preference is your own. The justification is what makes the list great. Keep it up.

Always happy to see LCD up on top. Surprised to not see any Arcade Fire / Sigur Ros / War on Drugs. Feel like they'd tie-in well with your other albums on here. Cheers.
