Top 100 Greatest Music Albums by Spyglass

My chart is ordered from best to worst. These albums I have chosen are albums that go above and beyond the boundaries of music, and have brilliance to share in whatever forms they take. All of the albums I've chosen are very special to me in one way or another, even if they're outside of my comfort zone, because a comfort zone doesn't matter when you're trying to comprehend all forms of music.

I've added little stories that describe my feelings when listening to each album. They're quite odd, but I love a little odd now and then.

Symphonic Prog

"The mystics outside my village always go on about their chants and their strange instruments. I didn't know guitars could be built or sound the way that the mystics make them. I don't know if I'll become one, but they invite me to their ceremonies because I can understand them. There is something about their ability to traverse whole landscapes of magic and music in seconds, and the stories they bring with them are phenomenal. Every time I'm with them, I feel like I'm flying atop a gryphon like the one they have tied in their stable, but silver and glistening in the sun. I feel as though I have a magic sword with the power of light, but I never need it, because I'm on a worldwide mission of peace. I guess you don't need to get high to find ecstasy."

Death Doom Metal / Gothic Metal

"Death really isn't that bad of a guy. He understands his job, and he has to watch people's lives unfold. He needs to make the decision as to whether or not people live or die. He once told me about how he often lets people live through great and terrible pains (both emotional and physical) so that the people he must kill have a chance to reflect on their decisions and make things better. And when they don't, he only feels guilty for allowing them to live. There were times when he begged to God to allow him to pass on his title to another, but then he would understand that for his prayers to be answered would mean that he would be passing this fate worse than death to another man. He told me that watching people make things right before they die was worth it."

Art Punk / Experimental Rock / Prog Rock

I am the maniac that waits for you to go to sleep. I am the surgeon that reaches into your dreams and pulls them apart like a puzzle just waiting to be put back together again. You are the receiver of a great gift, and not a victim of some disturbing fetish. Your mind is a box of toys, and I am the little kid who will use them to their full extent."

Neofolk

"Why are some lullabies just scary stories to get children to sleep, and eventually have nightmares? I know as a kid, I wished I could torture the man who wrote the rhyme where a baby and his cradle fell from a tree. Thanks a lot; I wish you nothing but the worst while in Hell."

Jangle Pop / Indie Pop

"From the deepest depths of England comes a band of high social status. Their lack of sophistication for British society is only matched by the pain in their hearts that they serenade to like lullabies for the teenagers of yesteryear. They are the Smiths. And they have a message for you, one that you don't wnat to hear, but will ring in your head forever: The Queen Is Dead."

Folk / Singer-Songwriter

"There's something about being an obscurity that's a lot like being lost in the woods. You live in a cabin often occupied by travelers who pay you rent, but then one day you go out and lose your way. All you have with you is a guitar to cheer you up or make you cry, depending on what you want. A guitar can be a true brother, and without it, you'll probably give up looking for your home multiple times. By the time I was found again, I never once gave up, because I had my guitar and my songs with me."
