Top 100 Greatest Music Albums by Spyglass

My chart is ordered from best to worst. These albums I have chosen are albums that go above and beyond the boundaries of music, and have brilliance to share in whatever forms they take. All of the albums I've chosen are very special to me in one way or another, even if they're outside of my comfort zone, because a comfort zone doesn't matter when you're trying to comprehend all forms of music.

I've added little stories that describe my feelings when listening to each album. They're quite odd, but I love a little odd now and then.

Prog Metal / Metal Opera

"Now when I count to three, you will think of a fantasy. Not the swords and sorcery kind from your childhood stories, but the one that you view as completely absurd yet seemingly logical, because you live the life of both yourself and the main character."

"Why are some lullabies just scary stories to get children to sleep, and eventually have nightmares? I know as a kid, I wished I could torture the man who wrote the rhyme where a baby and his cradle fell from a tree. Thanks a lot; I wish you nothing but the worst while in Hell."

Pop Punk / Power Pop / Indie Rock

"I'm frustrated about everything. I'm frustrated about the happy sound in my angry songs. I'm frustrated about the moodswings I get every two minutes. I'm frustrated that my I can't find a common ground for my failing romances and my hate for politics. What's a man supposed to do when he can't decide what to write? Would I do better at expressing myself with a four-minute pop song or a thirty-second punk song? Should I just do all of them at once and hope that my lingering frustrations connects them into the answer I need?"

Americana / Country

"I can think of a hundred ways to hurt myself and make a million out of it. You just write country songs. Some people call it sadism. I call it a series of cruel reminders, nothing more."

Neo-Soul

"I was walking through the city today, checking out the major differences between the high life and the poor man. There are none. People who sleep together in their houses are worse than the people who sleep together in the ghetto. How are they worse? The rich dirtying up their house, and then cleaning it as if they don't do anything wrong. At least the ghetto has nothing to hide. Love is not a strict thing: it has variations. It's not about honor or respect, it's about truth and what you're willing to do for it. We need love like that in our songs, because love is a philosophy that encompasses the world. And as I finished my walk, I heard the best independent funk band on the street, and their message was entirely clear: you can't put rules on love, otherwise it just becomes mindless sex in an unhappy relationship. I decided to live by that. If I'm rolling a joint in my room, or if I'm shooting hoops, or if I'm strolling in my sports car, I'm never gonna confuse sex with love again. This is my protest, and this is my story."

Outlaw Country

"How about a beer for me and everyone I sing about? I stole a million dollars, shot a million people, and today I celebrate with my 1,000th pitcher of beer! You could call the sheriff on me, but then you'd miss out on the wildest party of your life, and some of the best stories an outlaw like myself could ever tell. Now ain't that worth a million dollars and a few good bar stories?"

Jangle Pop / Indie Pop

"From the deepest depths of England comes a band of high social status. Their lack of sophistication for British society is only matched by the pain in their hearts that they serenade to like lullabies for the teenagers of yesteryear. They are the Smiths. And they have a message for you, one that you don't wnat to hear, but will ring in your head forever: The Queen Is Dead."

Celtic Folk / Celtic New Age

"I am a Celt at heart. Embedded in me are the stories of King Arthur, the slaying of dragons, and the magic of Merlin. The spirit of the bard and the witch are in me as one unique presence, and with that presence I unleashed my power in the form of song. This classical hypnotism will not possess you, but enrich you."
