Top 100 Greatest Music Albums
by
Spyglass
My chart is ordered from best to worst. These albums I have chosen are albums that go above and beyond the boundaries of music, and have brilliance to share in whatever forms they take. All of the albums I've chosen are very special to me in one way or another, even if they're outside of my comfort zone, because a comfort zone doesn't matter when you're trying to comprehend all forms of music.
I've added little stories that describe my feelings when listening to each album. They're quite odd, but I love a little odd now and then.

"Make yourself a bigger sponge, because you've got a lot to soak in now. You got your golden age of sex and violence, but the point of aging is to mature like a fine wine, and so we can get something better than gold: spirit. You think that's what defines the part of the 'rainbow' I came from? You think you know everything, and not just about me but yourself? I dare you to go through more than an hour of experimentation and tell me if you expected that from someone like me." [First added to this chart: 04/04/2020]

"Progressive rock? Don't call me that anymore. I literally invented the term back when my first album came out. You were supposed to be your own man, but instead you studied me like a stalker forcing his own pen into my book. How dare you call yourself progressive! It only took you five years to make me feel unoriginal. But I will continue to reinvent myself. And I will play the music you don't understand. It is the music you think you know since you like to copy me, but is really the music you fear to play or even tolerate: music from the heart." [First added to this chart: 04/03/2020]

"My team of explorers has traveled around the world in a search for the 1,000 pieces of this jigsaw puzzle. Many of the pieces are worn and taken by the cruel pains of time and dust, so putting the pieces back together may not be perfect in the way which we assume. But to see them in this way, aged by time, gives it a new spirit which I didn't think was possible. I guess that's what makes us relatable to a 1,000 piece puzzle. WHen we're putting it together, we're putting together a piece of ourselves." [First added to this chart: 04/04/2020]

"I'm frustrated about everything. I'm frustrated about the happy sound in my angry songs. I'm frustrated about the moodswings I get every two minutes. I'm frustrated that my I can't find a common ground for my failing romances and my hate for politics. What's a man supposed to do when he can't decide what to write? Would I do better at expressing myself with a four-minute pop song or a thirty-second punk song? Should I just do all of them at once and hope that my lingering frustrations connects them into the answer I need?" [First added to this chart: 11/06/2020]

"I was walking through the city today, checking out the major differences between the high life and the poor man. There are none. People who sleep together in their houses are worse than the people who sleep together in the ghetto. How are they worse? The rich dirtying up their house, and then cleaning it as if they don't do anything wrong. At least the ghetto has nothing to hide. Love is not a strict thing: it has variations. It's not about honor or respect, it's about truth and what you're willing to do for it. We need love like that in our songs, because love is a philosophy that encompasses the world. And as I finished my walk, I heard the best independent funk band on the street, and their message was entirely clear: you can't put rules on love, otherwise it just becomes mindless sex in an unhappy relationship. I decided to live by that. If I'm rolling a joint in my room, or if I'm shooting hoops, or if I'm strolling in my sports car, I'm never gonna confuse sex with love again. This is my protest, and this is my story." [First added to this chart: 06/03/2020]

"I built a wall around me today. It showed me things about people I never knew. Pink Floyd had it all wrong. Walls don't separate your from people, they help you understand them. I guess it's cheating, since I built a wall of glass, but it was a stained glass wall that was mostly decorated in whites, offwhite, lavendar, silver, and many other bright colors. I needed pale colors, not vivid ones, or else I couldn't really see what people were acting like. People seemed to just glance at my wall and go back to their business. That would never have happened if I had stained the glass with vibrant colors; they would have kept looking at the wall. But this way, I got to see people for who they really are. The mellowness of holding in emotions is what defines us. It's a strength we all share, even though we're not opening ourselves up. Somehow, it made me feel utterly relaxed and very alive."
