An amazing album. Pink Floyd were at their experimental best at this point introducing synths like the VCS Synthi used in On the Run. There are no weak tracks, the whole album flows beautifully. Stand out tracks for me are Time and Money. Although there are references to Sid all over Wish You Were Here I do wonder if any tracks on DS associate with Sid. Possibly overshadowed by the Prog masterpiece with it's iconic cover, In The Land of the Grey and Pink', this album is equally brilliant yet quite different. One of those where you discover more with each listen. [First added to this chart: 09/02/2021]

The album certain members of Yes never liked apparently. I don't understand why, I really like it. One of the best prog album sleeve designs of the era with some truly progressive music to immerse oneself in! [First added to this chart: 09/04/2021]

I have a theory about great album covers and great albums which I will often reference in comments. This is a classic example, fantastic cover with an amazing album within. Did Budgie want to be taken seriously though, with track names like 'You're the Best Thing Since Powdered Milk' and 'In the Grip of a Tyrefitters Hand'. The thing I love about Budgie is that they moved from really heavy material to the almost ethereal like 'You Know I'll Always Love You'. Great drum solo at the beginning of 'Powdered Milk'. The guitar work on 'Parents' is superb! Get it on vinyl if you can. [First added to this chart: 03/26/2022]

In my opinion this is their best album from the Ozzy era, the cover is perfect for the album and band name. It certainly is more melodic than some of their other work, not a weak track on the album and a good flow from track to track. [First added to this chart: 10/17/2020]

I've been after a decent copy of this on vinyl for years. Today that moment has come. It is an awesome album, very diverse which suitably depicts the different characters of Henry's wives. If you are into analogue keyboards, then this is a must have album, keyboard lovers can salivate over the opened gatefold photo, where the sound sources are noted for each of the keyboards. Another great Roger Dean cover. Another great prog album showcasing the mighty Mellotron. Greenslade were at that time a twin keyboard player act with no lead or rhythm guitar. What was missing in guitar parts they certainly made up for in keyboard parts. 'Bedside Manners are Extra' and 'Sunkissed You're Not' are personal favourites. [First added to this chart: 04/07/2022]

I am led to believe that Greenslade were considered to be classed as second division in the prog department. I don't really understand why. If you take this album for example, to start with it has an amazing Roger Dean cover which invites you into a world of fantasy. Unusually there was no lead or rhythm guitar, perhaps this played a part in their ratings in the prog world at the time? For me, the lack of a guitarist is more than made up for by lashings of Mellotron, served up with electric piano and organ. If I want to submerse myself in Mellotronesque prog I reach for this or Bedside Manners are Extra. My favourite track is 'Sundance' which has some beautiful piano over Tron strings coupled with moments of solid rock with electric piano and organ providing the lead over Tron washes. If the solo on the last track had been created on a Mini Moog it would blow your mind! [First added to this chart: 03/26/2022]

Karn Evil is the epitome of bombastic prog greatness! Side two is what this album is all about. Carl Palmer, Greg Lake and Keith Emerson vie for instrumental supremacy and hold it all together unlike some ELP work.
The vinyl with sleeve which opens like a book to reveal the mystical face, the unusual poster like inner booklet, all very prog!
A pivotal prog album up there with the great Yes, Genesis, King Crimson top works.

Quite a different listening experience, can't really be compared to the top three or four Tull album output. With Ian Anderson playing saxophone the sound is unique from other albums. Reading some of the other comments, possibly an album which will grow with repeated listens. The spoken bits are a bit wacky and reduce quality music listening time. Bit of a mixed bag really. I will give it more time as only just played for the first time. [First added to this chart: 03/07/2021]

Really great start and love the notes. Makes it very personal and far more interesting. Been meaning to do this for my charts but never get round to it.
