Top 100 Greatest Music Albums by Tamthebam

I love all types of music it doesn't matter to me if the artist is considered "cool" or not. I've been collecting music for over 50 years and these are the albums I've listened to the most. I love to try and listen to everything an artist has recorded. I love music to enhance my moods I like albums that give an atmosphere/a theme, whether that is in Soul/ R n B, country, folk, jazz, indie, rock or "easy listening" or pop music. My favourite decade is the 70's. Its 2024 and I just realised that the majority of my chart is female ! This was not a conscious decision it just happened

I only got into the Stones at around 18 when I bought a copy of Some Girls for £3 at a street market. After that I ended up buying everything they released and through time learned about the "Big 4" albums they released between 1968-72. The whole album is great but songs such as Bitch & Wild Horses along with Brown sugar deserve a special mention. [First added to this chart: 06/14/2012]

A great soul/jazz album from the amazing Anita Baker. She has a truly soulful voice that transcends genres this her 4th album is her 2nd best after Rapture. Soul's Inspiration, Fairy Tale, Lonely & No One To Blame are the best tracks but the whole album is great late night listening. [First added to this chart: 08/18/2013]

It's like you walk into a bar and a guys playing the piano and singing. That's what this album is like, the opening 3 tracks are brilliant and you can't wait for more. Martha & Rosie are also strong as is Lonely & Grapefruit Moon. A late night listen with a glass of wine and Relax. Small Change & Heart of Saturday Night his nxt 2 albums are similar to this but not as strong. [First added to this chart: 06/14/2012]

An almost perfect debut album Grace will go down in history as one of the greatest debut albums of all time. Who knows if he would have ever bettered this. But this is what we are left with a great album and a fantastic band backing a guy with an amazing and moving voice. Mojo Pin, Grace, So Real & Lover You Should Have Come Over are masterpieces. Not as keen on the covers - Lilac Wine, Hallelujah & Corpus Christi Carol good versions but would have liked more of his own stuff. Dream Brother is a great ending to a great album. Another great artist taken far too soon. [First added to this chart: 06/14/2012]

This is thee classic Joan Armatrading album, the one that put her on the map. Full of great songs Love & Affection, Save Me, Somebody Who Loves You & Down To Zero being the stand out tracks but all the tracks are 80/100 or better, she would never improve on this collection although Show Some Emotion, The Shouting Stage & To The Limit come close. The debut album from the Banshees is still their best, it contains a brilliant cover of the Beatles Helter Skelter as well as the tracks Mirage and Switch both amazing songs. Carcass ,Suburban Relapse and Jigsaw Feeling are also great tracks The whole album has a punkish sound to it but it has certainly stood the test of time, unlike some of their albums in the 80's. My favourite Blondie album bought it when I was 17 it is more punky/raw compared to Parallel Lines not as much "Pop" here. Harry's voice gets full reign on some of the tracks Detroit 442, Love At the Pier, I'm On E & I Didn't Have The Nerve.... being good examples. Denis & Touched By Your Presence Dear were the singles released but the album is full of wannabe singles. A great 70's album before they went mainstream. [First added to this chart: 08/18/2013]

Madonna's 2nd best album. I really like the way the final few tracks blend into each other for the last 22 mins. Starting with Forbidden Love - Love Tried To Welcome Me - Sanctuary - Bedtime Story & Take A Bow a fantastic 5 track mini album with Madonna at her best singing about love/sex. The album also contains forgotten gems Survival, Secret and Inside Of Me. [First added to this chart: 07/27/2012]

The 2nd Badu album was a double album. Mama's Gun carries on where Baduizm left off, more laid back neo soul jazz sounding songs. The whole album flows along at a slow & mellow pace with jazz leanings. No song is better than the other as all the parts of this album make the album whole, so it would be unfair to single out one track above the rest. I should add that it takes a few listens before it all sinks in. [First added to this chart: 02/23/2016]

Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some charts can have several thousand ratings)

This chart is rated in the top 14% of all charts on BestEverAlbums.com. This chart has a Bayesian average rating of 87.5/100, a mean average of 87.2/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 87.6/100. The standard deviation for this chart is 10.2.

Seems like a good list to explore when I want to find some new R&B artists and albums. And I too love Stevie Wonder.

Great chart! Love how high you rated David Bowie's "Outside" it's so good! Also fantastic seeing REMs album "Up" it's so underrated. Also multiple Bjork is a plus. Found your chart through Erykah Badu's album "Baduizm" really dig her, really like "Worldwide Underground"
