Top 100 Music Albums of the 1980s by mrmcrook

The 80's was the decade when a lot of premium metal came out. It was the time when I was obsessed with it. My tastes expanded in future years but overall the albums of the heavier nature put out during this time massively dominate this list.

I realize my chart has a lot of compilations and many people believe compilations shouldn't count. The reason I have included them is so I can add a few bands/artists that have fantastic music and should be recognized. Otherwise the list will be hugely dominated by a dozen bands that everyone knows has a huge number of worthy albums. Hence why the large amount of compilations and live albums.

Any footnotes are just personal ramblings for my own entertainment.
And to remind me of the joy the music brings before all memory is erased.

My 3rd favorite Metallica. 'Creeping Death' being one of the greatest ever metal songs. They were just so fantastic back in their youth and prime. [First added to this chart: 10/02/2020]

Brilliant debut album. Great songs right through. Deserves more credit than it gets. Paul Di'Anno's vocals give a different rawness than what was to come when Bruce replaced him, but in no way is he a bad singer. Suited the songs and style very well. A great album. This is one of those albums I totally thrashed back in the day. But unlike a lot of other heavily rotated albums from the past, I think I over saturated myself with this. I rarely listen to it these days and it no longer hits me like it used to. But on saying that, you can't dispute it's a fucking great album full of fucking great songs. (Still not as good as any Bon Scott though) [First added to this chart: 10/02/2020]

This is Priest's album on speed. The average pace on all these songs leave most earlier work in the dust. Fast, furious, brilliant the whole way through. One of there heavier albums. This is metal. I rate this up there as one of there best. [First added to this chart: 10/02/2020]

A lot slower paced than all there other albums. This one took a few listens before it gelled but it's the Dead Kennedys man. Everything they've put out surpasses almost all other punk. As always lyrically brilliant. They are the template of reality. 'MTV Get off the air'; hilarious yet so true. [First added to this chart: 10/02/2020]

Grace Jones is bloody great. This would be my favorite from her. I like every song on it, first 3 being the ultimate starters. But all other tracks have grown on me well and stand on their own merit [First added to this chart: 10/02/2020]

This was the first Motorhead album I bought. Hence it holds a special place in my heart. Title track is one of the best songs they do. The amazing thing with this band is that each of their songs on not just this, but all albums are all so individual and to their own. Unlike other bands that play at this speed where most songs all sound the same. Long live fucking Motorhead. [First added to this chart: 10/02/2020]
