Every now and then, while listening to this record more than once, I have to stop it and shelve it for a while because I start feeling too much anguish.

Once I read an interview to Thom Yorke where he mentions that, precisely, they wanted to create anguish in the listeners. They did it well.

The sound quality is amazing and the production is perfect. Most importantly the album as a whole is even better that the sum of its parts. At some points it feels like losing a bit of momentum and that prevents it from being in the Top 10, but anyway, a really great album.

What a steamroller of an album!!! The power and fury in most songs was enough to transform the musical landscape for many years.

Kurt Cobain's voice is so perfect... his personality was so perfect for what he represented.

This is another record that can stand unlimited plays and you can still enjoy it more and more every time. It got lots of attention when released, because it had some excellent singles: "High and Dry", "Fake Plastic Trees" and "My Iron Lung", but the lesser known songs are all very, very good. It's one of those rare albums that have no low points. [First added to this chart: 06/28/2012]

This is a compilation, however the songs in this record are so different from the originals, and the album is so good, that I just had to add it. Charly García is maybe the most iconic Argentinean rocker, as he started his career in the early 70`s with different bands and later became a solo act in the 80´s. Both in his group career and as a soloist, his songs and records are a living legend not only in Argentina but in all the Spanish speaking countries. Charly García is well know for his erratic behaviour and drug related problems, but in Hello MTV Unplugged we find him relaxed and enjoying himself in order to offer us powerful and heartfelt versions of some of the best songs of his wide repertoire. Being Charly, he ad libs, forgets the words of a song, makes a chatty doll sing in one of his songs and cheers his band during the concert, but this only adds a dose of his unique and eccentric personality into the mix. This is an amazing album. All songs are very well written and both the melodies and the moods work perfectly as separate entities or to give the whole album a dreamy mood that make the whole work an incredible pleasant experience. In my opinion this is the greatest album by one of the greatest bands of all time. [First added to this chart: 06/28/2012]

If this album wasn't a compilation, it would be in my top 20. All songs go from very good to classics, but of course, that's easier to do with compilations. However, this is a great starting point if someone is interested in Los Fabulosos Cadillacs, which in my opinion is the best band ever from Latin America. Los Fabulosos started as a ska/punk band in a style that was very similar to The Specials or The Clash, however over the years they began merging the original sound with more "Tropical Latin American Music" which is the type of music usually played in the Caribbean rim, and which has African roots. By mixing these 2 styles they created a hybrid that was very influential all around Latin America, as it blends the power of ska, punk with the danceable rhythms created by African descendants in Latin America. Very atmospheric and moody. The 2 most likable things about this album are the mysterious quality of the music and the voice of Beth Gibbons, that goes so well with the mood of the album. Every time I hear this record I feel transported to one of those Hammer TV shows of the early 80's. [First added to this chart: 07/04/2012]

Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some charts can have several thousand ratings)

This chart is rated in the top 1% of all charts on BestEverAlbums.com. This chart has a Bayesian average rating of 91.7/100, a mean average of 92.4/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 92.3/100. The standard deviation for this chart is 6.2.

Really cool chart, great comments which you added for pretty much every album. Lots of recommendations for Spanish- and Portuguese-language music. Based on the albums in your list that I know and love, I'm sure to find something I like from the albums I haven't heard.

Nice diversity - especially with the number of Latin American & jazz inspired artists/albums ~ definitely unique in that sense and says something about your personal tastes. Personally, I didn't get all that excited by your selections ~ which says something about my personal tastes.
I am sure the following observation will change over time, but I was intrigued by what I guess is a coincidence in your chart having 11 albums in each decade of the 80's, 90's, 00's & 10's.
BTW, nice to see one entry from Australia.

I have mixed emotions about this chart on the whole.

‘Escafandra’ is at large not wrong about it being good in terms of its variety chronologically and its regional scope. The former is something I demand of charts; whilst the latter does add a great deal of interest. The jazz albums also add a lot of interest although they are by no means unique. However, I must say that the chart is weak on one decade – the 1990s, from which the albums included – with the conspicuous exception of ‘Dummy’ – really are to my mind overrated at best.

You put the Beatles on number 1 what is clearly cool. But i like the rest of your list as much as i can. Some artists i don´t know before from Spain and Brazil but that makes the diversity .

You put a lot of effort on this. Really good chart with amazing picks. Im more of a Revolver/Highway 61 kind of guy. Though theres good tracks im not too fond of White Album/Desire. I 100% agree on Sgt Pepper though, Strawberry Fields and Penny Lane shouldve replaced some of those weaker songs.

¡Hey, man!

I hope you liked La Barranca. Just came to check your recommendations. Now I'll have to pay more attention to Low, I've heard some songs but I will check that album. It was hard for me to put Beatles' White Album for the same reason as yours: it is so irregular. But I guess we put it there for that exact reason, I love those albums where you can tell the band is finding exactly different sounds and ideas that's why I love Pearl Jam's No Code or Radiohead's Kid A.

Anyway... ¡Saludos desde México!
