Produced By VAN MORRISON
1. And It Stoned Me
2. Moondance
3. Crazy Love
4. Caravan
5. Into The Mystic
6. Come Running
7. These Dreams Of You
8. Brand New Day
9. Everyone
10. Glad Tidings
Along with Warren Zevon's Excitable Boy, Moondance may be the most front heavy album of all time. The first 5 songs, or side one, are hits, strong, flawless, and comprise an excellent makeout album. Probably most of the people who owned this in the 70's never even bothered to listen to side 2. Which is too bad, because while not nearly as famous, the last 5 songs are just as good. Particularly "Brand New Day". Van The Man is shaping his successful period here...somewhat jazzy soul numbers with deep hooks. The main piece is "Into The Mystic", a strange ode to the Boston river...one of the most beautiful songs of its time. Moondance is a stunning album, Van Morrison at his best.
Van had plenty left in him...His Band And The Street Choir, released in the same year, is just as great, and the two together would have made an unbelievable double album. But that just wasn't Van's way of doing things. [First added to this chart: 04/30/2015]
Produced By DANIEL LANOIS & PETER GABRIEL
1. Red Rain
2. Sledgehammer
3. Don't Give Up
4. That Voice Again
5. In Your Eyes
6. Mercy Street
7. Big Time
8. We Do What We're Told (Milgram's 37)
9. This is The Picture (Excellent Birds)
After leaving Genesis, Peter Gabriel released four solo albums called Peter Gabriel. Not big on album titles, he called his 5th album So (to be followed by Us and Up). So is where Gabriel finally got everything right. Mixing his maturing songwriting with world beats and his strong political sense, he found his way to three memorable hits ("Sledgehammer", "Big Time", and the beautiful "In Your Eyes"). And the rest isn't bad, either. "Red Rain" is powerful. "Mercy Street" and "We Do What We're Told" are in no way filler. And lastly, he fills it out with not one but two excellent duets: with Kate Bush on "Don't Give Up" and Laurie Anderson on "This Is The Picture".
So is the high mark of Gabriel's career. Since, he has released only two albums of new songs (plus one album of covers and one that is orchestral reworkings of previously released songs). But he was on the mark here. Too bad the songs dried up so quickly. [First added to this chart: 05/13/2013]

Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some charts can have several thousand ratings)
This chart has a Bayesian average rating of 86.5/100, a mean average of 84.6/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 86.7/100. The standard deviation for this chart is 14.9.

Very nice extra chart. Expands your musical tastes and the notes are good. Good to see Led Zep and good to see the Semisonic album too.
A ranking of 100 better albums is very complicated.
I don't know if a ranking of 1000 better albums is meaningful. I'm not sure.
But some good choices in this chart.
Difficult to judge withou talking the first 100 in account at the same, when the site in not really designed for it. Like the intent and like lots of the albums though.
you have 5 or 6 Led Zeppelin albums in first 40… I think some of them could've been in first 100… Back in Black, Sg. Pepper and Highway 69 too. But I appreciate your work, I mean best 1000 albums, great.
Tons of excellent albums.
Nice to see you made a great chart outside your top 100!
Wow This Chart Made Me Think About Waht Type Of Songs The Society Ignores. But They Are fu**ing Good Even Those Idiots Can't See Excellent Chart
We have very different tastes, but I admire your willingness to go beyond 100. Nice to see "Highway 61 Revisited" finally show up.
Very nice chart!
