The opening song on this album is so out of place I don't know what to say. The 2nd song is decent, but from there it is some of best rock n roll I have ever heard.

Electric Ladyland and this album are like 4a and 4b.

Combined with certain narcotics this album can be better than Rubber Soul, but it doesn't have that one song that stands out to me more than any other. Most of their other albums do that for me. But every song is good on this album. I can't say that about too many. [First added to this chart: 12/09/2012]

I think everyone can agree this album is all over the place, but it has a few of their best songs I think. Those being Dear Prudence, While My Guitar Gently Weeps, and Blackbird to me. [First added to this chart: 12/09/2012]

Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some charts can have several thousand ratings)

This chart has a Bayesian average rating of 86.9/100, a mean average of 86.8/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 87.0/100. The standard deviation for this chart is 9.4.

Cool enough chart ~ too heavily centred on a small number of artists (51% of chart devoted to 11 artists) for my liking ~ mainly an observation.

Very BEA friendly chart. For recommendations, I recommend you dabble in other genres and get a good solid appreciation for other music other than Classic Rock. If there was one album to recommend, my favorite album is Depression Cherry by Beach House. It's so beautiful it's unbelievable. Its kind of like MBV Loveless but its dreamier rather than shoegaze. Similar genres though. Knowing your favorite album is Loveless, if DC didn't do it for you, maybe Cocteau Twins 1993 album would. Thats a fantastic album thats reminiscent of MBV Good luck

Love this chart! 29 of your albums are the same as mine, and I reckon quite a few extra you have here are only just missing out in my greatest 100. Must check out some of the stuff here I haven't heard yet,

I agree almost completely with “Boltzmann” about this chart – there is an element of the predictable and it is very centred on rock in its purest form.

One album I can recomment if you like ‘Loveless’ is ‘Love Agenda’ by Band of Susans from 1989. Heavier than My Bloody valentine, but equally layered and at times almost as gorgeously melodic.

When i look at the chart of the day, i really only look at the top 30 entries;
by placing Quadrophenia @ #3, i know instantly that you are a serious music lover with credibility, who appreciates quality musicianship and, is willing to explore music produced decades ago ie jimi hendrix, ccr, zep
From your list, i really am going to listen to loveless in a more critical light- previously i thought it was weak but your description enlightens me to open that door once again.
Also, love seeing kings of leon on your list- not a super fan of them, but going to visit their work because of your testimonial.
We have very similar tastes but i have found that the beatles just don't do it for me anymore.
Additionally, have you listened to (new music) "the national" or "the war on drugs" or "gary clarke jr".
i think you will love these 3 modern rock bands.
Also, give Joe Satriani a spin, specifically "surfing with the aliens" as a intro. then extremist or
crystal planet or flying in a blue dream. i think you would enjoy this.
thankyou for a great list.

Mellon collie and siamese dream are both incredible albums that I will always be grateful to the smashing pumpkins, but I agree that mellon collie is slightly better. Liked your chart

Loveless is in my top 3. I'm still too lazy to sit down and listen to all of Mellon Collie. A lot of classic rock thrown in between the albums I like, but they're still good. Led Zeppelin 1 is my favorite of their albums and Kid A is my favorite album in general. I'm not going to rate your list lower due to differing opinions; it's a very interesting list with a few albums I'll have to check out.
