Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).

Great chart, it would be good to hear what it is about these albums that made you pick them .
Really enjoyed scrolling through this chart - great diversity that kept it interesting from 1 to 100.

Excellent chart! We share a love of Nirvana's Nevermind, which doesn't exactly make either of us that unique--except to say it's an album that I connected to on a very personal level as soon as it came out, and that still packs a punch whenever I hear it. Looking forward to checking out some of the selections on your list that are less familiar to me!
Low-Life at 28 is awesome, very good selections in a difficult task

This is a list of great taste! And absolutely surprising in every way. In my opinion this is one of the most exciting chart. Love to see Twilight Sad, Songs:Ohia, Suicide or The La's in such a prominent environment. Thank you mate
