"I love this album. I bought my first Monk album after reading a NME obituary in 1982. He sounded great and the album did not disappoint. There was a great picture that went with the article and it was framed and lived on my walls until it got badly damaged around 10 years ago."

"Miles changed the face of music many times, the first of which was Birth of the Cool. This album is cool as can be, featuring unusual arrangements for jazz music at the time. The album didn't come out for many years after it was recorded, but the music from these recordings had already spread thr..." [More]

"'Round About Midnight was the first album by Davis on Columbia, where he would stay for 30 years. It features saxophonist John Coltrane, who had not yet become an icon. The interplay between the two here is great, with Davis' melodies being answered by Coltrane's energetic solos. The rhythm secti..." [More]

"I heard that lonesome whistle blow reminds me of Hank Williams. Great country album. Johnny Cash's debut shows how serious/true this man's heart has been. Cry Cry Cry, Folsom, I walk the line, are key tracks."

"This record has Downbound Train on it, one of Chuck's coolest pieces of work. Roly Poly and Deep Feeling are two more favourites. The hits you can get anywhere but it's good to hear them more or less in context."

"Well, the first (and my favorite) great quintet. Coltrane like hard learner of freedom in harmonies. Chambers, Garland and Joe Jones, the best rhythm section of history of jazz. Davis lyrical, masterful. What can I say?"
