I don't really know the best way to go about it.
Can you help please?

I think it should be done, but there is a lot of competitions going on at the moment,it's a bit hectic.
Would you be thinking about the best rap artist?or pure and simply the best rapper?
Q-Tip or Kanye for me everyday of the week.

That's a good question. I think best rapper. But then if Rakim didn't win, my faith in humanity would be severely diminished.

Pfft, can't see that happening, prepare to be dissappointed. But yes, good idea. _________________ Shut up mate you're boring!

I remember about 4 years ago, Hip-Hop Connection magazine (if anyone remembers it, it's now gone bankrupt) polled 100 rappers, and Rakim came first. KRS second, Tupac third, Biggie fourth. Which I don't necessarily disagree with, but I'd probably swap Biggie for Pac. They also noted that when they polled journalists, Ghostface was in the top five, but he didn't get any votes from other rappers. I think this website would actually come up with a really good list. Just a thought.

great idea! and you're the perfect person to run it. Just go by what you've seen other people do - create a nominations thread and go from there. It's up to you how many you have but generally you should go for 32, 64 or 128 nominations (in order to get down to a final) but someone did matches in bunches of 3 once so you can do what you want. The board seems to have gone in favour of single elimination tournaments because they're quicker but the original tournament I did was more of a league where entries were put into groups and then lversed everyone in that group to see who came out on top. Which I think is fairer but it does take double the time.
As someone said you should probably hold off for a little while (at least until the Female tournament is in the semis before you start). I mean we've had 2 tournaments running concurrently before but with the amount of shit clogging up this forum at the moment (at least until the survivor thread dies down. And hopefully thejoj stops posting random matchups) it would probably be too much.
Sorry to answer a question meant for harkan, but I'm sure he has many more tips.

Wait til others have finished first as people get annoyed by having too much choice. I get that but we will see.
If you are doing the rapper tournament, define which artists you want in the tournament (eg. solo/group etc.)
I think the best way to approach it is to open nominations like I have previously, to 64. This is usually a good number and makes it easy to deal with.
Each user is allowed 4 nominations (4x16=64) and tally up the nominations in a spreadsheet to make it simple for you. (I can send you my format if you want)
Use a site like random.org to make the selections fair. Some users have done it for each round to continue to make it fair but I run it like a tennis or soccer knockout tournament.
Look at which real life tournament structure you like to work with. This helps you to be familiar with the run of the course.
Sorry if that is more confusing (brain is in report-writing mode!) but will help you out closer to the start if you need it too.

this is the only thing I would differ. Quite often more than 16 people want to nominate so it's probably fairer to start everyone off with 2 nominations each and if there's still more left over then start another round and first in best dressed.

Nice one. Yeah, wasn't planning on doing it until after the female artists comp has finished.
Cheers!
