What killed the Floyd was the fact that anyone tried to carry the band on after Waters. I'm sorry, but Gilmour's A Momentary Lapse of Reason and The Division Bell are the worst albums to come from a respected band name since Doug Yule attempting to continue The VU with Squeeze. A band isn't the same band without their primary songwriter. And while it's true The Final Cut is more of a Waters solo album than a Floyd album, that's far from saying it's bad. Have you ever heard his solo album Amused to Death? Better than almost any Floyd album ever released. I could say the same for The Final Cut.
