there's a guilty pleasures thread already, but to repeat my most obvious guilty pleasure is Night Ranger's Sister Christian; it's a little ridiculous how much I love listening to that song at any time of the day.

As far as memories connected to music, of course that's why people enjoy the music they do. Old farts enjoy jazz cos that's what they grew up with and connected memories to, 60s fucks enjoy 60s shit because that's what they grew up with and connected memories to, I enjoy Lust for Life so much because I listen to it in the mornings when I'm still drunk from the night before (and those are the best times).
There's an AA meeting coming up next Tuesday if you want to go with me.
Nah, I can be an alcy cos I'm a college student and a geologist; that's two good excuses

Guilty pleasures intrigue me. Being embarrassed about something that brings you pleasure is fascinating, at least when it comes to art. I can understand being embarrassed about how much you beat off, or feeling guilty about stalking someone, stealing things, which might all produce some kind of pleasure response. But if you like a song or artist, thats just you, its a part of your tastes in a weird way, i think it just reveals the Puritanism about elite or hipster culture. Suppressing your real feelings! Purging yourself of pleasure! REPENT REPENT!

There needs to be a line though, If limp bizkit was my guilty pleasure, I'd probably prefer to tell people how much I beat off. I dont know if its a pressure thing, some people get embarrassed and pressured from all sorts of different things, some by music, some by the clothes they wear. Insecurities about trivial things exist regardless of social standards/expectations.

If the rap group 3rd Bass is your guilty pleasure, it may better to tell peopel you're a crossdresser.

Oh please. I like the classics for their perfection and aesthetic qualities, but I don't take music that seriously all the time. I also like hearing extremely decadent cock rock, totally machismo rap metal (like limp bizkit Laughing ), kitschy techno "mistakes" (Neil Young's "Trans"), the occasional Max Martin-written sugarpop, and a lot of "junk culture" that offers me various pleasure. You don't always have to be in a constant state of catharsis. I like some slick 90's action movies more than certain Fellini "masterpieces" because they offer a bigger bang for your buck, and more stimuli response, however ridiculous they may be. I like when things are ridiculous. I don't even think that means I have bad taste, just diverse taste. Its like the fucking rich yuppies who only eat at stupid vegan 5 star restaurants and scoff at people who genuinely like Wendys... and even worse, probably like hot dogs "ironically".
