My father is 30 years older than me, and I'm nearly 40, so you can imagine 
He did listen to 50s and early 60s rock 'n' roll, he loves Peter, Paul and Mary, and recently I gave him 4 vinyl albums (still need to find him a record player) with the following artists: Statler Brothers, Carpenters, Andrews Sisters, and Peter, Paul and Mary. He also likes older country music. He hates Nat "King" Cole and some other guy I forget (Johnny Mathis maybe? Maybe not), but only because some network took over the 40s-oldies station he used to listen to back in the 90s and started playing them every 30 minutes.
I know one of my father's favorite songs was "You're The One" by the Vogues and he saw The Beatles as the end of good rock and roll But he also liked his college's theme song, The Animals' "We Gotta Get Out of this place". He also likes ABBA and Celine Dion. No accounting for taste
