Once the bands are in matches, votes (as far as I'm concerned) shouldn't be based on whether a band should be there or not (and no I don't think MBV is pp or nw) but simply which band you prefer (or just abstain if it bothers you that much). As such I'm voting for My Bloody Valentine. |
But the thing is.. MBV were post punk at one point, but not at their most famous albums. Similarly, Talk Talk started as new wave, but weren't anymore on the albums most people associate them with. So they have every right to be in the tourney, but is it really fair that they're getting votes based on those albums that have nothing to do with the genre in question? Example - I love MBV way more than Joy Division, but Joy Division are a far better post punk band - because what MBV issued as "post-punk" just wasn't that good.
I think it's slightly different to the electronic album tourney (though I would have made and possibly have made a similar argument - I could like one album more than another, but that won't necessarily mean I also think it's a better "electronic" album) in the way that those were albums, i.e. specific pieces of work, whereas we're talking bands here, i.e. their entire careers, where music, genre-wise, usually varies a lot more than within albums.
