OK, The Fall are one of the greatest bands of all-time. They have so many amazing albums that instead of picking one for my chart I copped out and just put the six-disc Complete Peel Sessions on it instead, simply so that I didn't have to pick between Live at the Witch Trials or This Nation's Saving Grace or Bend Sinister or Hex Enduction Hour. Even their poorer albums always contain at least one great song, and they're a band that (despite drastically changing their sound at various times throughout their career) have never tried to be something they aren't or cater to a mainstream market. They are all that is great about post-punk. They eschewed the Chuck Berry-isms of their peers in favour of something altogether more out-there and arty, drawing on the disciplined disorder of Captain Beefheart and the hypnotic rhythms of Can, all topped off with the dissonance of the Velvet Underground and the snarl of The Stooges. Mark E. Smith acts as a sort of shamanic figure, spitting out "abstract poetry filled with complicated wordplay, bone-dry wit, cutting social observations and general misanthropy." If you're not too well acquainted with the band, I recommend that you remedy that immediately. On the first page of this thread are a bunch of my favourite Fall songs, and a listen to any of the albums mentioned in this post could change your life. Seriously. Marquee Moon is a stunning achievement, but I'd take The Fall's discography over Television's in a heartbeat. There are still a few of their albums I've yet to listen to, and that's part of what makes The Fall so great. Even when you think you know them, there are still absolute gems to be found. Very little in my listening life gives me the same pleasure as hearing an awesome Fall song for the first time, and they should be a serious contender for this entire tournament. God knows they deserve it as much as anybody. Vote The Fall.
