I'm now rather content with my 80s chart. Anyone wanting to say it's the worst decade for music, here's some proof that maybe it really wasn't. There will be no hair metal here.
18 80's albums in my overall chart, such an underrated decade. Very nice chart btw! _________________

I actually had a boss once who told me that he firmly believed that there was no good music released in the 80s.
To which I told him he was insane. I mean come on. There's so much good 80s music. A lot of bad too, but a whole lot of good.
Yeah. I think the 80s are generally regarded as a terrible time for music, but it was really just a transitional period. from my memory, the radio was awful during that time period. Rod Stewart and REO Speedwagon were huge, but we also got hip hop and less pretension. _________________ http://jonnyleather.com

You could call the 1980s the second pop radio "boom" (the first being the 1960s) and a lot of that transitory movements had a lot to do with that. That "awful" new wave, synthpop, arena rock, hair metal, etc. influenced a lot of bands in the 00s. So... relevant.

Personally, I have a weakness for hair metal. I love it. I know it's vapid and formulaic but I love it, especially as a guitarist. Some of the most underrated guitarists of all time played for hair metal bands (see: Nuno Bettencourt, Vito Bratta, Reb Beach). _________________ Progressive Rock

You forgot Paul Gilbert (Mr. Big).
There are hair metal gems out there though; just because it made a mockery out of heavy metal by teetering with ballads and arena-oriented rock influences doesn't mean there wasn't good music there. I love WASP, Vixen, Mr. Big, Extreme, early Motley Crue, etc.
Since we're talking about 80s charts, who would you all say have the very best 80s charts on the site? I'm trying to broaden my listening from that decade.

This one is pretty good, I agree with it for the most part.
Personally, one thing that doesn't seem to show up on people's "best of the 80's" lists that I love is Tears For Fears. Now, maybe I'm crazy, but "Songs From The Big Chair" and "Sowing The Seeds Of Love" are incredible albums.
Also, if you're a fan of metal, metal from the 80's would need it's own chart entirely. _________________ Progressive Rock

Norman's and Cellar's, as per.
Finally decided to get rid of my '80s hip-hop chart and do a proper decade chart instead, given everybody seems to be talking about the '80s. Here it is.
