O simple ones, learn prudence; O fools, learn sense. - Proverbs 8:5
The song is the purest example of making something from nothing. Two people, without access to instruments or proper recording equipment, creating something totally new and exciting, something that sounded unlike anything before and yet instantly familiar. One man making music with his mouth, the other a true street poet, narcissistic and at the same time entirely universal, like all the best poets are. Imploring people, literally, to get up, to dance, to enjoy life while it's here; imploring people, subconsciously and by the song's very nature, to do something for themselves, to not be constricted and constrained by the templates we are born into and to get up and prove yourself, to break the monotony of every day life through music and words. It is one of the greatest statements of one of the great artistic movements of the 20th century, and it towers head and shoulders above anything the likes of Pink Floyd or Radiohead or The Beatles ever did simply by existing, by being born from nothing - hell, without access to anything those artists had - and blossoming into something unique, invigorating and completely and utterly memorable. And what is so great about that? Everything, my friend.
