Sadly, I started listening to Arcade Fire because I loved their use of unusual instruments. Now they use a synthesizer. 🙁

These would be good songs, if they were pretty much anyone but Arcade Fire.

Apart from maybe (maaaaaaybe) a harp, synthesizers (which, by the way, they also used in their early music) are far more unusual than any of the instruments they used on, say, Funeral for example.

Yes, but not quite as prominently.

As for "unusual" instruments, I was mostly referring to what Regine Chassagne plays, such as the Hurdy-Gurdy and glockenspiel. Seeing as I can play glockenspiel and am attempting to learn Hurdy-Gurdy, I was very much in love with those songs.

Synthesizers have far more possibilities in terms of sound than those instruments, and are just as (if not more) difficult to play. I don't understand the synthesizer hate.
