I don't know what it was about it... something about it, I can't put my finger on, but I didn't love it. ๐
On paper, it sounds like it would be right up my alley. There were moments I liked, but overall... I just, I don't know, didn't connect with it for whatever reason.
This could've been put out on Anticon like 10 years ago. This is for people who prefer their hip-hop deliberately weird. I'm thinking Doseone (and, by extension, cLOUDDEAD), dรคlek, Shabazz Palaces, Milo, Open Mike Eagle. Basically this shit is extremely bawp-friendly. And it's free. Enjoy.
I'm listening to this. And yes, I went so many pages back to quote Lethal instead of just putting the album cover myself, lol.
Edit: I am adoring the sound of this. I wish I knew what the lyrics were, I can't quite catch them, and they're not on the internet anywhere. I'll have to try to really pay attention to the lyrics next time I listen to it...
Anywho, I'll have to listen to more of the artists Lethal mentioned. I already adore Shabazz Palaces, like dรคlek and cLOUDDEAD, and liked Doseone's contributions to Cold House by Hood.
Edit edit:
This really is quite an atmospheric album with a lot going on. I'm very happy with it. ๐ Thanks Lethal.

NOOO!!!
For me, its brilliance is in its irony. Whether it be between the song names and the music (Happy is one of the most beautiful and sad songs I've ever heard, but from its name, you would never think that) or the other way round (This Boy is Exhausted has lovely, upbeat guitars, whilst there's a very different story from the song's name, as does Ex-Girl Collection). Or there's just the emotionally draining songs: She Sends Kisses or Thirteen Grand.
There's also superb instrumentation, and I love the way they produced it- ie. they used many of the first recordings of each instrument in the final songs.
To be honest though, I can see why you don't like it initially- I felt the same way with Built to Spill- who directly influenced this album- as well as bands that have fairly similar styles, such as Modest Mouse.
I do hope in the future you see the beauty of this album, because it really is a stunning album.
