Not a beastie boys fan. Love some of the work they inspired, just not their's. Not too hard for me. _________________

There are a lot of similarities between these two. They were both bands that tried to be outrageously on the bleeding edge of musical trends of their time (psychedelia and rap, specifically). As to which one was more successful at what they were trying to do, I can't really say. But the Mothers had more enjoyable music. I even liked the second disk, which had the experimental stuff on it.
Vote to the Mothers.

I like Hot Rats more...
...but really, the massive catelogue of Zappa work overshadows any one particular album. Saying he peaked as early as Freak Out! seems to overlook the avalanche of brilliance that followed. _________________ Finnegan was super bad-ass.

Haha Freak Out! and Hot Rats are both on my chart so I won't argue with you there, although I do feel that Freak Out! is Zappa's strongest work. But you do bring up an excellent point. It's painful to say that Zappa peaked so early, but that goes for all artists where their debut is their strongest. It doesn't mean that everything that came later isn't also brilliant stuff. _________________
