Second listen. I like it, but it's a bit inconsistent. The originals tend to be the best. Favorites include Big Iron, El Paso, The Master's Call, and They're Hanging Me Tonight.
Ever heard Johnny Cash's cover of Big Iron? It's great.
Ian Pooley, Since Then (2000). Nothing earth-shattering here: for memory's sake if you will, as it seems to me it perfectly encompasses the spirit of the early 00s in Paris' chill-bourgeois-hip night bars and clubs of yonder years circa Bastille. That was what it sounded like. Therefore it feels a bit strange to be listening to this at home: I'm both out of time and out of space.
First listen. Fun record, sort of a compendium of all sorts of subgenres (some indus, a little bit of Cramp-like monster mash postpunk rockabilly, Swan-like tongue-in-cheek darkness, retro 60s psychedelia, noir movie postpunk, etc.) treated half-ironically (or so it sounds) half-respectfully, makes for an enjoyable listen all in all. Production is fittingly awful.
Went to YouTube to look for the Marty Robbins Gun Fighter Ballads the full Album is on there in 3 parts but noticed this one so got this blaring out the speakers now
