Not even the slightest offense intended, but I feel like that majority of the bands mentioned thus far have long since peaked. Getting antsy for the new Coldplay or Death Cab albums to me is kind of like getting antsy to see what kind of shirt my dad gets with his Kohl's Xmas gift certificate (which can be really exciting if you look at it right, so again no offense.) Contrary to 2007 and 2008, I was kinda bummed about the new bands that poked up last year, so I can't really say I'm pumped about the new Beach House or Titus Andronicus or something like that. So I guess my hopes for 2011 are:

1) A new rock band capable of simultaneous critical and commercial success. Some band with the smarts to incorporate great timeless RockSongs with whatever drippy textures the pitchfork types are drooling about next year.

2) A solo entertainer/tastemaker who somehow makes autotuned junk pop look really, really stupid, while still appealing to the kinds of people who listened to autotuned junk pop.

3) Any sort of triple album

4) A band made of really young kids (like 6-8)that are so talented driven that it disturbs the general public, and questions arise in the media regarding the ethics of their parents.

5) New Animal Collective (sorrry)

6) Another awesome super group (or another Them Crooked Vultures LP)

We'll see, should be a good year.

New Shins, REM, Strokes
New Lauryn Hill, Pavement (understand these are highly unlikely)

I thought The Shins weren't a band anymore. Where did you hear that they were releasing another album? Also, did Pavement go back into the recording studio? Really? As for the new R.E.M., they are starting to leak tracks, the songs are sounding pretty damn good, so far. Lauryn Hill? Wow, how long has it been since she released an album?
