Actually, which Lee 'Scratch' Perry albums would you guys recommend starting with?

I've seen the man live in the past (Along with Max Romeo) but never really got around to checking out some of the albums he's been involved in yet.

A really good starting point is Arkology, a three-disc compilation. But album wise I'd recommend The Congos' Heart of The Congos, Max Romeo's War Inna Babylon, Junior Murvin's Police & Thieves, Jah Lion's Colombia Colly, Bob Marley & The Wailers' Soul Rebel, and his own Super Ape, Blackboard Jungle Dub, Roast Fish Collie Weed & Corn Bread, and Cloak & Dagger.

Cool, thank you, I have Hearts Of The Congos and it's great, but I've yet to hear any of the others so I'll start checking them out.

Phil Spector's Wall of Sound was the first demonstration that a producer adds value to the record.

I have liked the work that other producers have done more (Martin, Eno, Dr. Dre) but this honor will always go to Phil Spector. He revolutionized what could be done in the studio - the music that was released on record could now sound significantly different than what the artists could recreate live with instruments.

I also have to say that my least favorite major producer is Rick Rubin. Though he's showcased some of the best music of the past several decades, his stripped-down production style is the opposite of what I believe is good production, and I think I would personally enjoy the music those artists released more had it been produced by somebody else.

George Martin, for his groundbreaking work with the Beatles.

I voted for Josh Homme because of what he did on Arctic Monkeys' Humbug. I personally feel its one of the best produced albums of all time.

But what about David Bowie? His own stuff obviously as well as Lust For Life and Transformer surely makes him worth a mention?
