I disagree. I think their songwriting was quite a lot stronger back on Funeral, especially lyrically.

Vote to Arcade Fire. |
My first instinct was to preface this with "forgive the heresy, but for me..." but that seemed too wussy. I should have gone with my instinct. What I meant by pales (I should have been more explicit) is that Funeral is musically less refined, more amateurish.
I'm not saying I didn't like Funeral. I voted for it this round (last round it was against Baduizm, which I loved enough to put into my Top 30. But I digress.) Next time I listen to it (round 3, prob'ly), I'll try to pay more attention to the lyrics.

Isn't Anything is pretty good while Funeral is in my top 10. No contest for me. _________________

Ooph, I don't even know about that. Yeah, Funeral's more "raw" sounding but that's kind of intentional. To me it's like comparing For Emma Forever Ago and Bon Iver, Bon Iver. While his sound got more complex and well mastered I suppose, it lost a certain raw element that I see in the evolution between Funeral and Reflektor. _________________
