What I'm saying is that all of these albums are pretty darn low on my chart of 438. Two of these are in my bottom 20. Of course nearly all albums deserve a second listen (not Squeeze).
Oh, I get it. Sorry, I misunderstood you previous post I think ๐ซข

There are no words to describe how much I love this album. There are some days when I think that this is better than Origin of Symmetry, but most of the time they're so close to one another that they are basically in equal first place on my chart. The thing is, though, this album is nowhere near perfect. Faster Gun and Per Second Second, for example, are hardly my favourite tracks of all time. The production, as well, is hardly fantastic. However, its imperfections make it so unbelievably compelling and likeable that I regard this album completely faultless. What's on display is potentially the strongest moments of song-writing I've heard. The riffs are catchy and memorable, the songs are varied, in terms of structure and content, and, although the level of musicianship isn't fantastic, the Wrens make the most of their abilities. However, the thing on this that completely sets it apart is the lyrics. I doubt I'll ever hear a more moving and genuine set of lyrics in my life. Frankly, they are completely genius. The more I think about it, the more this album turns into a concept album. There is repeated reference to regret about the past, mainly in the form of Beth, the former love-interest of the narrator (Charles Bissell). This idea is most clearly explained in She Sends Kisses and Ex-Girl Collection, both including specific reference to Beth. However, outside of the specifics, there are a lot of inferring that can be done. I'll leave it to you to try and discover what you can, I don't want to run the fun for you. However, we eventually find out that this past relationship with Beth is destroying the narrator's current relationship, leading to a lot of confusion. This confusion, I believe, is then highlighted by the difference between the instrumentation and the vocals. The instrumentation, that is often upbeat and happy, is the narrator's exterior, whilst the lyrics and vocals show the narrator's true feelings. This can be highlighted by this lyric in Ex-Girl Collection- "called at work, โhappy anniversary, jerkโ and I just laughed at the timing with you on hold line 2 still crying." This comes after the narrator's current partner (Ann) discovers the letters sent between him and Beth. The narrator's partner is obviously very sad and angry, whilst the narrator shows his heartless exterior. However, we can see in songs such as 13 Months and 6 Minutes that he's clearly very distressed, but tries to hide the emotion. The rare moments of the sad sections of instrumentation, I reckon, could show the narrators sudden outbursts of emotions, shown most obviously in Happy. Its between Hospice and this for best lyrics, and it can go either way. Both have the ability to leave me stunned and dead, emotionally.
However, moving on from potentially preposterous inferences, that may even not be true, and ignoring the lyrics, this is still a bloody fantastic album and, even with average lyrics, would be very high on my chart. Most the time I just listen, not taking much note at the lyrics, and just enjoying the magnificent instrumentation. However, if you're prepared to be emotionally drained, take a careful look at the lyrics- especially in Ex-Girl Collection and 13 Months in 6 Minutes. If you still don't like this album after that, then you've honestly got no heart.
And, by the way, this is by far the most underrated album of all-time.
Wow, this is not near as heavy as I expected. Actually it isn't really that heavy at all to me. and...I knew thrash metal could be cheesy but damn, this is...hm...I don't like the vocals at all. I guess the guitar is pretty cool, though as I've said, it could be louder. I like my guitar sound to be enveloping, I guess a side effect of me enjoying black metal and shoegaze. I see the vibe it is going for, which could be cool...if this didn't sound so much like...stereotypical metal. And yeah, those vocals are godawful.
I don't think I want to finish this, sorry Jason, I'll try something else you recommend. Maybe some doom metal! ๐
