on the topic of nevermind the bollocks though. i do agree with max that it takes a lot of time to like them. bollocks was one of the first punk albums i got (along with inflamable material) and i thought it was way to raw but is now one of my favorite albums and did influence punk a great deal _________________ "The future is unwritten."

But you were supposed to hate The Sex Pistols, they were a very confrontational band. Also, they pretty much preached nihilism... what are they going to say that isn't supposed to piss you off? They're really serious about not being serious, just fuck all and do what you want. Their image was first, but the music is pretty good. I love this album- they are not in the top 20, but they sure as hell one of my favorites. They aren't the first, aren't the best, but the energy behind them is incredible. Overrated? I would take this nearly any day of the week (unless it's the Clash, of course).
The reason you might not be a fan of nevermind the bollocks, is because its a pile crap. Its an album thats hypde is based purley on social relevance and cultural impact, if were talking about MUSIC albums its probably the worst album to be feature in any greatest album list, they were just in the right place at the right time. granted you cannot avoid their influence but they who they have influenced have betterd them e.g. Dead Kennedys, Minor Threat.

While both those bands are quite good, I wouldn't say that either has produced anything distinctly better than never mind the bollocks.

I dont believe that Sex Pistols were that influential as they say. Same goes with Beatles. Has Sex Pistols influenced some true punkrock masterpieces? Zen Arcade, no way. The Minutemen were more influenced by Captain Beefheart. Fugazi was influenced by Led Zeppelin and funk music. If u ask me, i think the Ramones were much more influential punk band.
